Whisky Reviews for Craigellachie 2006 whic

The nose can offer a nice freshness with its wine gum, mint and vanilla mix. In the taste, however, hot-bitter lemon and anise dominate too quickly, which drown out the accompanying pleasant fruit impressions and vanilla notes.

The bottler's advertisement had already announced it: Wine gum apple rings are the first dominant impression - even in blind tasting. Together with green pear, unripe pineapple and mint, there is a pointed and quite sharp sound of white wine spritzer in the nose, which culminates in apple cider vinegar and lilac. A few grains of gunpowder - some would smell sulfur - and freshly felled softwood continue this trail. Only gradually do vanilla pods and shortbread begin to appear in the background, which gradually come to the fore the longer the malt has air to breathe. In summary, after a while, you could say: a sharp, fruity, sticky mixture of peppermint chewing gum and black wine gum - in a nutshell: IRNbru.

Wine gums and again especially the apple rings introduce the initially fruity taste. Apple, pear and the pineapple typical of Craigellachie convey a thoroughly juicy, velvety impression with honey and cornflakes, which then quickly turns into a bitter and lemon-accentuated aniseed sharpness, which nevertheless remains somehow superficial and somewhat thin.
    • Finish
      69 69
The finish is bittersweet with memories of the spring forest: fresh wood, grated leaves, lemon and mint, fruit bowls, wine gums and old aniseed candies. Their slightly vanilla character then once again suggests the metallic, fleshy Craigellachie muff, which just doesn't quite fit into this overall impression.

    Fits and meets my taste.

Nice sweet and fruity with a certain oak and nice and intense.

Yes, he has everything a 1st Fill Ex Bourbon needs!

Vanilla! Honeydew melon, red and also green apples, a little floral, sweet, in the background a little malt but also other bright fruits.
      A very light perfume note.
      Red gummy bears.

The somewhat dirty notes can only be guessed at very far away.

All in all, an apple pie comes to mind ... but without cinnamon!

      Great nose!

With water, however, the vanilla takes and the fruit basket becomes clearer ...

Already vigorous at the start but again a lot of vanilla and sweet light fruits. Here the bitter notes and the malt are now a little more. The dirty notes are also clear. Here he cannot hide the distillery.

It could also be rhubarb cake here.
All in all, very juicy until the oak sets in.

Even juicier and sweeter with water.
Here he wins clearly with water.

The finish is no longer so fruity. The vanilla with the tart barrel notes remains. Here I feel the oak for the first time.
Yes, but here it is now slightly bitter and dry.

Nose: The malt has been in the glass for 30 minutes and my first impressions are sweet and malty with violets and pears. Over time, Spanish almond cake comes to mind. After the first sip, all this is complemented by citrus notes.

Taste: Even sweeter on the tongue than the nose would have expected. In addition, the acidity and fruity bitterness of red grapefruit. As expected, you can also find the vanilla, but also a certain "meatyness".

Finish: medium with grapefruit, vanilla, white pepper and ginger.

  4. Whisky-Connaisseur did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

A delicious mix of yellow fruit aromas, creamy vanilla and light tobacco flavours, which are kept in good balance by a warming, yet subtle oak and ginger spiciness. Despite the high alcohol content it is pleasantly drinkable neat. It will certainly go well with a piece of white chocolate with almonds.

I thank whic (Whiskycircle) for the complimentary sample.

    • Nose
Fresh on the nose with sweet vanilla and fruity aromas of banana, ripe pear and mango. Slightly floral with some oak wood and ginger spice in the background.
    • Taste
Sweet and intense on the palate with creamy vanilla notes and pear compote. Beautifully warming with a pleasant spice of oak and ginger, followed by crispy biscuits and a hint of tobacco leaf towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish shows a medium length with creamy fruit jam, followed by slightly bitter oak notes and some peppery spiciness towards the end.

With water: Stays sweet after adding a few drops of water. Clear vanilla notes, but also significantly more pepper and oak spice. Also more floral notes while the fruitiness is a bit tamed. On the palate sweet and creamy with caramel and fruit. Prickling on the tongue, but also a bit more dry oak and ginger spice. The finish is still of medium length, but much drier with oak, ginger and tobacco notes.
