Nose: Sweet barley juice, dry peat, forest & heather honey. Yellow fruits in the background. Hints of marzipan. Some dry, old ropes? Bourbon notes of dried coconut and vanilla. Quite nice. (86-87p)
Taste: The arrival comes with concentrated barley juice sweetness as well as some black pepper. On the mid palate there’s some wood, some honey/light treacle, dark chocolate and a little fruit juice. (84-85p)
Exit: The exit is more peppery, shows a little peat and dark chocolate but excites me less. The aftertaste continues in the same direction with dry peat, black pepper, a little saw dust(?) and some sweet barley juice. (82-84p)
Overall: An Interesting, different but nice and well made whisky. So far I like it and think that the nose is its best part. Total score: 84 (85) points.
I will let it breathe (and oxidise) and return to it in a few weeks (or months).
