cooked pears, apple pie, honey, vanilla, banana, fresh and fruity, really enjoyable

  2. lincolnimp scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

This is really bitter and dry neat at first so I added a little water.
Better with water, lets some white fruit through but the taste is blunted by the dryness to such a degree that It makes it uninteresting, not for me.

Great stuff. Pretty complex, ripe fruits but also with a nice, subtle smoky and spicy part. Earthy as well. Very rich whisky.
    • Nose
      89 89
Fruity, ripe apples, pineapple, some 'green' vegetal notes. An earthy touch as well. Some alcohol, but not disturbing. Ripe oranges now. Far away there's some lingering smoke.
    • Taste
      89 89
Quite smooth with some nice sparkle. Fruity, ripe fruits, with a sour edge underneath, and now even a whiff of slight smoke in it, spicy, licorice, pepper.
    • Finish
      88 88
More smooth now, with a bitter ashy and fruity touch, vegetal, earthy. A bit drying, middle long finish. Later on things get longer and more warming. Even a touch of tobacco.

    Courteasy from Volendam.
    • Nose
Nuts, vanilla, a trace of smoke and some waxy notes. Very clean spirit, also fruity notes pop up, mainly apple. Soft mocha and eggnog.
    • Taste
Very waxy and notes of grains, wholemeal bread and again the nutty character combined with honey. Again very clean spirit, but so tasty with funky sorbert citrus.
    • Finish
Vanilla, soft spices, some pepper and macadamia nuts.

[August, 2020] Another distillery with only a few releases both OB and IB-wise which is a shame because it offers a delicate fruity-floral profile, usually...

...like this dram. It is not the most complex Cragganmore but it displays the distillery profile nicely and it is easy quaffable stuff. Not too bad, the Aussies would say.
    • Nose
      87 87
The colour is jonquiripe corn and the nose offers exactly the fruity-floral profile Cragganmore is famous for. It is not the most complex one but it is enjoyable to sniff, no doubt. The wood is a little dominant, already but this is not distracting, yet. After some breathing the fruits retreat somewhat and let the stage to more waxy and spicy aromas.
    • Taste
      88 88
The taste is rather sweet with different sugars and honeys topped with home-grown fruits. After some chewing the other side of the dram awakes with waxes, oils and herbal-spicy flavours which counter the sweet attack. Now it gets into a balanced profile, I like that. More chewing releases nutty and autumn-floral flavours which enrich the profile. But most important: this is easy quaffable...
    • Finish
      85 85
The dram arrives warming with some peppery moments on the palate but the coating effect is limited, sadly. Accordingly the finish is not very long and turns more to the waxy-herbal side with some tasty bitter impressions which are welcomed to counter the sweet taste. There are some minor drying moments towards the end when the wood tries to take the stage again, but luckily it does not succeed. Water releases more sweet aromas in the nose and turns the taste smoother but I like the neat dram best, actually.

The "typical Speysider" in a MOS lineup.
Fruitiness, sweetness and vanilla all over. A dram everyone can enjoy without any highly positive or negative points.
Medium long finish which is in the end a tad bitter.

  13. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Part of a MoS tasting I did with friends.
This Cragganmore was quite a big surprise and a very fun whisky to discover.
    • Nose
Very sweet. Candy like in those cherry candies. Also Vanilla, white grapes and a floral note like in freshly cut flowers. A beautiful and quite unique nose.
    • Taste
Again sweet. It’s really gentle and well rounded on the palate. I get toffee and butter. The taste is quite a surprise after the nose. It is not really a logical continuation of the nose. This makes it very fun and interesting. It’s a rather complex dram for Cragganmore terms of speaking.
    • Finish
This is possibly the least interesting part of this whisky. The finish is rather short and quite alcoholic. I get several spices and at the end slightly peppery.

  14. RobbievdB scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

The nose is the best part of this Cragganmore. It gives loads vanilla, yellow fruits, but also flowery and green’ish aromas. It’s quite candy like in the mouth losing the above mentioned aromas. It all feels a bit two-faced whisky.

  15. LeChiffre scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

I like the nose best here. In the mouth and finish, especially with a small splash of water, it has a very good mouthfeel, but is minimally bitter-bitter. Overall, delicious bottling, but also not a candidate for large bottles considering the price.
    • Nose
      88 88
fruity-sweet; yellow fruits; Melon; Pineapple; some citrus; Vanilla; some mint; a spicy note of fresh wood offers a nice counterpoint; Alcohol is perfectly integrated
    • Taste
      87 87
sour-sweet fruitiness; Melon; Citrus flavors; Brown sugar; peppery spicy; Ginger spice; delicate bitterness of grapefruit; bitter fresh wood notes appear; with water again creamier and more mouth-filling
    • Finish
      86 86
slightly peppery-spicy; Citrus; slightly bitter-bitter spice of fresh wood

    • Taste

    • Finish

Interesting nose, and very nice to try, but overall this malt does not call "buy me".
    • Nose
      87 87
There is a very nice wood and resin note, which gets sweeter and sweeter with a little distance from the glass, but also a somewhat peculiar light cardboard aroma is along with minerally fruity pastry notes.
    • Taste
      86 86
Sweet and sour, sugarcane-like, malty sweetness, which quickly gets a bitter counterpoint.
    • Finish
      85 85
It stimulates salivation, and more and more soft wood - no, bark notes, like peeled bast from the branches of a shrub.

  21. dRambo scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Immediately after uncorking, he was rather weak - racy, one-dimensional, with mineral inharmonious lemon.

After a week and with 10cl of air in the bottle another Malt - tasty - crispy - yummy
    • Nose
      89 89
clean, fresh, very accessible - yellow fruit - ripe lemon, dried pineapple, melon, green banana - powdered sugar, ginger, lemon balm, fresh tree sap, vanilla, green foliage, bark of green branches, fresh toasted juicy wood, vanilla, mint, laurel , very delicious citrus oil, subtle smoke - the nose pulsates - fruity - fresh - lively, very well balanced and beautifully integrated alcohol
    • Taste
      88 88
Lime slices with peel and brown sugar, mint, freshly grated wood, ginger, chili - from the second sip the smoke is only part of the whole and is only slightly noticeable in the finish with a slight ash aftertaste - complimenting integrated alcohol, tart citrus notes with fresh citrus and Mint oil, herbs and essential oils such as chewed fresh green wood branches, tannins, pleasant Grapefruitschalenbitterkeit
    • Finish
      86 86
creamy, fresh - citrus, herbs, chalk, some mineral stone meal, toasted cereals - bittersweet - Geranium leaves - medium long

  22. St. Pauli scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

This is a fantastic example that when having a bit bolder (yet balanced) spirit and time deliver the best whiskies. It delivers a very balanced and complex whisky. It has both freshness and an earthy and spicy backbone. I think that any whisky fan would have to love this whisky.
    • Nose
A complex, but overall quite fresh and creamy nose. There is a green influence of menthol, a whiff of smoke, but fruit and cream dominate: vanilla ice cream, melon, pineapple, tangerine, gooseberry and green apple. After a while, coconut and marzipan join this party.
    • Taste
This whisky has substantial weight on the palate. It feels dense and mouth coating. It's rounded, but with a slight acidic touch (which I find pleasant) and a spicy bite. It's very fruity on the palate: apple, gooseberry, melon dominate (maybe a hint of pineapple cubes). Some icing sugar, shaved oak, toasted coconut, mint, honeyed cereal, cinnamon, pepper. The whiff of smoke has almost totally gone.
    • Finish
Quite long and warming. There is a slight undertone of vegetal peat, which combines well with menthol to form a balance against the green and unripe tropical fruit. Towards the finale, the sweet spices and toasted oak return to add some warmth.

Very fruity, apple, pear, apricot, slightly floral, in the mouth volume without pungency. Light malt aroma. Delicious cragganmore!
