Very interesting fresh DRam, which reminds me more of a gin than a whisky. Lots of citrus flavors and lots of juniper! Relatively little that reminds me of an Old Pulteney ...

Not bad, but it feels younger than it is. Overall more of a gin or something. Solid. By the way, I don't really associate the whisky with “wicker” as wicker baskets or the like.

Old Pulteney 2001 - 2019, 17 years, 52.29 "The wicker dram", 58.2% alc. Bottler: SMWS. Expansion: bourbon barrels

Nose: Lime juice and juicy pears meet various herbs including mint, camphor and juniper. I also find salted butter on warm crepes. There is a little sooty chimney in the background, but really minimal and hardly noticeable. Then the fruit flavors become stronger again, this time in the form of guava and melon.

Palate: Ample on the palate, intense. The fruity aromas on the nose are much more concentrated, along with dried apricots and Mirabelle plums. Walnut bread, thyme, lemon balm and cayenne pepper.

Finish: Very long, wonderfully continues the palate, some fruit and mild herbs. An aromatic sharpness towards the end.

Conclusion: A real Pulteney, complex and yet everything in harmony. 86/100 points (2022)

SMWS Tasting Notes: Initially the nose is sooty and coastal in a very classical sense. Then abundant citrus with fresh limes and lemons followed by some autolytic, yeasty characteristics, preserved lemons, soft tarry notes, salted butter, samphire, amber malt, beach pebbles, sunflower oil and gorse with a scatter of mixed dried herbs. Reduction unleashes the fruit with dried papaya, green banana, cough syrups, lemon balm, prune eau de vie, orange jelly, cantaloupe melon, salted caramel and kiwi. The palate brings a spice-infused waxy texture with paprika, chilli, spiced custard, sultanas, plum wine, rancio, lemon jelly, juniper twigs and sea breeze. Water brings out sweet grist, turmeric, Caledonian ice cream, bracken, bone dry blanc du blanc Champagne, mineral oil, cereals, breads and fruit salad.
