It’s lovely to have witnessed Mackmyra’s development in real-time, coming of age as a distillery entering its third decade. I’ll be looking out for and expecting to see some cracking expressions when the juice hits 15 or even 18 years.

N: Apple snow, soft pears, and pineapples,…
T: ,… with a lovely oak blanket body and cellulose-y waxy mouthfeel.
F: True to form. This would ‘pear’ nicely with the calvados.

C: The best Mackmyra I’ve had since I got overly excited about Bruks back in 2013. This independent 11yo is so similar to early Bruks releases in profile but with a maturity that lifts it away from the unripe fruits and those unfortunate detergent-y notes found in some batches.

This popped up to order in one of my fave stores in Canada; so I had to have it... it's Swedish whisky by a legendary Indi bottler... what could go wrong?

I read some notes, and I confess I was a little worried; but when you crack that bottle and your having a dram in the back garden - this dram is a soothing creamy dream. Dangerously drinkable and very much in line with the Brukswhisky offerings with an added age statement!

If you're not a fan of world whisky; this sin't for you. It's not a Scottish malt, and the flavor profile shows it; but the profile it brings is fantastic and well worth searching out IMO!

Creamy kiwi fruit, like a kiwi milkshake. Okay, that's weird... but this isn't! I can see where some people are saying detergent, I get more astringent oak and tight spices. There's a bunch of oak spices that aren't quite developed and seem a little youthful; but that's the spirit character to me. Green cardamom, young cloves and plums. The pungent kiwi/gooseberry note fades into white cedar shavings and green apple skins.

Wow! Vanilla Vla city! (The Dutch know what's going on there), that's a creamy vanilla pudding/custard that's pour-able and delicious... mixed with red cedar cologne and punchy starfruit! Apple skins again, more spices like caraway oils and tarragon leaves. The body is a little short, but very creamy; spirit forward whisky!

The finish shortens up a bit, tighter oak notes with more vanilla cream and spices. Galangal ginger, almost floral ginger-y notes, mixed with more heft Vla creaminess and some overripe fruits like that kiwi and maybe some pineapple in there too.
