A nice all-rounder with no rough edges. However, somehow it didn't strongly appeal for me. Would the whisky had been better served maturing for an extra few years? Possibly, but there is nothing wrong with offering some younger (and cheaper) product to widen the audience and I think there are plenty of people who would enjoy the value-for-money this whisky provides.
    • Nose
      strong hay, barnyard
    • Taste
starts with an alcoholic bite but then softens up; strangely Bourbon notes come through
    • Finish
medium+; a solid finish and a very pleasant ebb

The taste is reminiscent of sweets from childhood, which seem slightly artificial, but still tasty, lots of youthful strength, tolerates water well

    • Taste

  4. dapoinbua scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
very speysidey, pears, some spices, vanillacreme, cookie dough, very pleasing. when you add some water more bright fruit pop up
    • Taste
much more spices than in the nose, dark bread with cardamon, some cinnamon notes but not like some christmas malts.
    • Finish
solid finish for this age. water gives it a nicer mouthfeel.

Nice sherried nose but not overpowering. Dried fruits, brown sugar. Palate delivers with more of the same. Sweet but the oak gradually comes into play. Stays nicely balanced with a little or even more than a little water. Tasty well made whisky that punches a few years above its age.

[December, 2019] No, I am not paedophelic and neither buy nor drink underaged drams, usually. Not because this is illegal (it is not, of course) but I do not like these immature profiles which often taste spirity and unbalanced. But this bottle was a present and I am curious enough to check if these modern sherry hogsheads supported a faster maturation, possibly...

...but this is as immature as (almost) all other underaged drams with both a simple malt and sub-standard sherry profile. Nothing of interest to detect in here so why should I drink such alcohol? Another dram that was robbed of a (possibly) better future when bottled that young.
    • Nose
      83 83
The colour is burnished and the nose offers an immature profile both on the malt and sherry flavours. Some toffee-sugary notes and sour-winey impressions with shy wooden notes, that is all what my olfactory cells are able to detect. This is unimpressive, nothing else.
    • Taste
      81 81
The taste is unimpressive too with sub-standard sherry flavours in a barley sugary sauce. Later some wooden spices (hot peppers) join in and the sugars combine to a toffee note but the sherry flavours stay below average with almost none of the really interesting components present. After some chewing the dram turns bitter on tannins (and not on orange marmelade as they stated on the back label).
    • Finish
      80 80
The initial mouthfeel is hot and very little coating only with peppery-drying moments (cold metals). The finish is short and adds nothing of interest. Water turns both nose and taste flatter without releasing new impressions, I like this dram neither neat nor reduced - sorry Cadenhead, I am not paedophelic.
