The Scottish Malt Whisky Society hit the nail on the head with this one.

It’s hard to add anything more that what the SMWS guys haven’t already said in their notes on this bottle except, maybe, the lovely lingering old wood and leather and rubber notes that remain on the palate for quite some time after a wee dram. It’s quite remarkable.

How they’ve managed to garner such richness and depth from a 10 year old is anyone’s guess, I’m putting forward the idea that they have signed a pact with Beelzebub himself.

For me, this is one of those whiskies I wish I had a cupboard full of. Unctuous, sweet without being cloying, rich, vinous, woody and irresistible. Damn their pants

"This latest experimental expression draws from a combination of whiskies matured full term in 1st fill Spanish oak sherry casks, as well as those matured in bourbon wood before over two years of marrying in 1st fill American oak sherry casks. The result is a dark, fruit forward dram with a touch of spice mix adding balance and complexity. We're delighted to present to members of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Muscovado Swirl.

A classical sherry profile that bursts initially with red berry compote, wine gums, freshly brewed coffee, polished hardwoods, exotic spice mix, toasted nuts, brown toast spread with treacle and walnut wine. A splash of water brings wet leaves, strawberry tobacco, muscovado sugar, rhum agricole, sesame oil, black cumin seeds, lemon peel, toasted wood, rye bread and bitter chocolate. In the mouth it’s a big swirl of dried dark fruits, menthol tobacco, strawberry wine, red liquorice, damp earth, roasted chestnuts, milk chocolate, buttermints and fig rolls. Some reduction unleashes old herbal liqueurs, mulled plum wine, coffee and walnut cake, cola cubes, cherry syrup and the lingering warmth of fruity red chilli."

A little disappointing - not quite the sherry bomb I was after
    • Nose

Nice on the nose: sherry, raisins - funky and dirty - slight egg sandwich -- slightly herbal, oregano,
    • Taste
      77 77
Weak on the palate, with very slight sweet red berries, tart fruits, creme brulet, - after time, oily, waxy, melon sweet
    • Finish
      80 80
burnt sugar, vanilla, floury twizzler, woody bitterness, - after time, slight tobacco, very slight funk, cherry

  6. Calmar scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Potentially very good whiskey, spoiled by cardboard and a young tree, soft and juicy with pleasant notes of chocolate and leather, tinted with sweet creamy tones.
    • Nose
Discreet, dry, polished wood, solid wood furniture, stain, new leather goods, cocoa, dark chocolate, creamy notes - fondant, toffee; the picture is not bad, but the depth is absent, somehow everything is superficial, cardboard tones appear in the development.
    • Taste
Thick, saturated, oak, sweet creamy notes, astringency of young bark, milk chocolate, ginger, cappuccino, young and unbalanced oak tones begin to dominate in development, plus cardboard appears.
    • Finish
Bright, but short-term, dark chocolate, coffee, oak, light notes of a burnt tree, creamy sweetness.

Had a 3cl sample of this blend to taste.
Nose is very promising, very soft and round, really pleasing,
However, the taste totally disappointed me. If you leave it in your mouth for a long time it becomes very uncomfortable, I would almost say disgusting.
    The finish is ok.
If I were offered it again, I would smell it for a long time, but swallow it quickly. then it is to be enjoyed.
The bad taste if longer in the mouth spoils him a higher score.

slightly alcoholic, but this disappears after a very short time and changes into spicy oak and sherry. Slight sweetness appears, as do spices. Later there will be some caramel, chocolate and nuts. Very soft and round.
    • Taste
      64 64
At first, there is sherry, some sharpness and spicy oak.
But if you leave it in your mouth longer, a very unpleasant and indefinable taste appears. Very difficult to describe but really not enjoyable. You should always swallow it quickly.
    • Finish
      80 80
sweet, somewhat nutty with caramel, spicy, slight hint of sherry. short to medium length. it's perfectly alright.
