  5. Calmar scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Discreet, discreet, but superbly balanced, complexly composed whisky, a wide palette of derivatives, a great play of shades and midtones, definitely requires a leisurely and thoughtful approach.
    • Nose
Restrained, dry, leather goods, caustic mineral notes - stone dust, grindstone, burnt sparklers; dry dusty boards, metal shavings, oiled tools, sweet creamy shades - toffee, fudge; salted caramel, fallen leaves, herbarium, ash-metal motifs, raw tin, light peat inclusions, in general, very complex, perfectly balanced, without much brightness, thin, in halftones.
    • Taste
Dense, oily, juicy woody notes with smoky peat inclusions, ash-metallic shades, creamy sweetness, fudge, salted caramel, mineral tones, leather goods, some tobacco, charcoal, industrial textiles.
    • Finish
Light, refreshing, oak, metallic acidity, ash-mineral tones, light smoky-peat motifs, leather goods, tobacco leaf.

a plus from me for the initial price. Writing in 2021 about a whisky of this quality, this was a big bargain for everyone that bought and opened the bottle.

    Kudos!

Fruit, honey, bacon, a little peat ... delicious. This bodes well.
    • Taste
      85 85
Red fruits, spicy, honey, sherry. Tasty but too dry in the mouth. A little fresher with water. Miss something with this Longrow .. little body and no depth. You can expect that from a 17 year old?
    • Finish
      85 85
Dark Fruit, Sherry, Honey, Smoky. The finish is medium! A little disappointed. Note: Sample drunk ... From experience Longrow often gets better with oxygen in the bottle.

Very sweet and slightly smoky Campbeltown whisky.
    • Nose
      86 86
Georgian grape pastille, plum jam, very sweet buckwheat honey. Faint smoke. Very strong influence of the first filling sherry butt, which I consider rather as a minus of this whisky. Then the fragrance falls somewhere.
    • Taste
      86 86
Sweet oak taste of the drink. The influence of oak is quite strong. Sweet, typical sherry tones.
    • Finish
      85 85
The same sweet aftertaste of medium duration.

Red berry syrup with coal smoke and rubber, along with honey roast nuts and some gamey notes - specifically orange glazed peking duck with freshly cracked black pepper. Very complex and alluring.

Compared to the NL version this one is on the toffee side, whereas that one is more on the fruity side.
    • Nose
Toffee and cranberry. With water more on the fruit: Cherry and mango.
    • Taste
Blackberry, toffee, peat and spice. With water there's mango.
    • Finish
      Blackberry, peat, toffee and peach.

    nose:
Fairly clear peat, not too much peat!
    wet and dried herbs
a little caramel, a little malt, a lot of wood too, dry, a little fleeting furniture dust
fruits macerated on raisins and red and orange fruits
    a slightly minty return
    mouth:
bitter almond, bitterness on the wood afterwards, distant peat, now more pronounced camphor, intense peppery spices, zan wood soaked in saliva
a little salty, creamy sensation all at once, vanilla, then on candied citrus fruits, cooked fruits, some more wood, a little humus
    final:
wood, malt salt, cooked fruit, peat on licorice. quite long and spicy too, menthol still.
