Expected a lot from this one. Private bottling's of Glenfiddich at cask strength and non-chillfiltered have been aboslutely amazing. This one, not so much. The nose was good and the arrival was really nice but after a few seconds it started to behave like a cheap blend on the palate. I think I will stick with the regular 15 yo Solera instead.

    Rating interval 80-83
    • Nose
Barley sugar, cereal and vanilla but also some dirt and soil which is nothing that I normally associate with Glenfiddich. Pear sorbet and hints of nutmeg were coming through after 15 minutes or so.
    • Taste
Bitter-sweet arrival with some oily and chewy character. It became even more bitter on the development with lemon zest and grapefruit juice and tended to disintegrate and crash unfortunately after a few seconds.
    • Finish
The finish was medium in length with bitter lemon and black pepper and some of the sparkling water recognized in Age of Discovery Madeira finish.

can not fully convince me, the finish is quite good, otherwise too sharp and unbalanced. With the increased alcohol strength better barrels would have had to be selected. Atypical Glenfiddich. 79/100
    • Nose
Mandarins, slightly alcoholic, seems somewhat closed after some time, creamy, fruity, kiwi, pineapple, young apples, nutty, cinnamon stars, is expected to be softer with water but not more complex
    • Taste
malty and grainy, a bit dry and spicy, caramel and candied apple
    • Finish
again fruity, sawn wood and pepper, relatively mild spiciness, a few grapes and limes, overall medium long

certainly one of the better whisky's of The Glenfiddich. This edition has a perfect balance.
    • Nose
oak and vanilla. Pineapple and a bit salty. Malt and a hint of chocolate.
    • Taste
oily, peppery and spicy. A bit salty but also the sweetness of vanilla.
    • Finish
pleasant bitterness (pepper). After that the sweetness of vanilla and candied fruits. Medium.

In either case a nice, warming whisky. Nothing that makes me go mad with lust, but still very enjoyable. I preferred this dram with some water, not too much.
    • Nose
Big oak influence hits first. Sharpness of alcohol needs to be sat through, then vanilla sweetness comes through. Soft spices in the background, together with some fresh fruit.

With water: The sharpness is lesser now, so is the oak. Vanilla runs the show now, as do the spices and malt. Fruit is harder to find.
    • Taste
Again oak is the first thing to hit me. Then comes big malt, after that the vanilla sweetness. Quite sharp but very warming. Spices and fruit come around as well.

With water: The big tingle is now gone, there's a more bitter edge to it at first. The oak more in the background, and the spice, vanilla and malt are more prominent. I like the burnt sugar bitterness to it. Oak shows its face later on.
    • Finish
Warming and enjoyable. A real oily feel in the mouth, coating the tongue completely, making it last longer than expected. It seems like adding the water is the cause of the oily feeling.
