Second tasting after Kilkerran 15yo for Taiwan.

Here the nose is a little scary, because very focused on the solvent. But on the palate, we go back up, and the appearance on the finish of peat is a real gift.

Quite powerful nose. We have a nice dose of solvent.
Green wood, varnish, anise, liquorice. Very light smoke.
From citrus scone. Lemon. Dust film.
Not that sexy and rather aggressive.
    • Taste
      88 88
In the mouth it is rounder and a little more balanced than in the nose.
The fruit stands out more, on citrus: lemon, lime. On yellow fruits: peach, plum.
We have a nice sea breeze, and a nice dose of eucalyptus which makes everything very fresh.
      Wood and smoke are receding.
    • Finish

The smoke returns, and is accompanied by a veil of oily peat. Spray, candied lemon, and eucalyptus complete the picture. Very cool.

I personally don't taste it better than kilkerran heavily peaed.

Nice stuff! It reminds me a lot of sort of the old-school, musty Highland profile that I’ve recently gotten from Lochside and Glenturret, but definitely with more of a bourbon-cask bent to things. The nose is very nice and quite Springbank-ish, but the palate in comparison isn’t quite as complex despite that great mead-ish note. The texture and finish are quite good, and a drop of water helped bring it all together. I’m always partial to big malty whiskies, so it’s great to keep finding new ones.
    • Nose
Malty and off-sweet. Buttered fresh-baked sourdough bread, buckwheat pancakes, sour cream glazed donut, heavy vanilla, and layers of toffee. Citrus pith, honeydew melon, cool flowers, lime oil, and Pina colada dusted with nutmeg. Some Springbank-y earthy funk, though fairly sublte: there’s dunnage, hay, salt, camphor, and something slightly industrial.
With a couple drops of water, things get a bit more savoury.
    • Taste
Medium-thick texture. Yeasty dough and grapefruit peel on the arrival. Develops quickly to rich dunnage warehouse, savoury malt, camphor, and gentle peat smoke. There’s a really interesting kind of dry-ish malty floral note; the best note I can come up with is spiced mead. Slightly custardy too, with a crème brulee note. Black cherries, plums, and slightly burnt apple pie.
The water brings out brown sugar and blackberries.
    • Finish
Medium-length, musty-sweet. Vanilla, cereals, clover honey, candied nuts, and crystallized ginger. Lingering camphor, some old leather, and mild earthy peat smoke.

This was a single cask split for Austria, Canada and South Korea.

Nose: creamier than the UK Bourbonwood , custard, honeysuckle, dried figs, salt
Palate: syrupy, juicy, oily, tinned peaches, crunchy caramel, almost burnt sugar
    Finish: heat, Haribo peaches

Tasted as part of Kilkerran 15yo Single Cask Tasting with David Allen, Grant Macpherson and Nicole Lindsay, Campbeltown Malts Festival online tasting week.

Lush creamy and buttery bourbon cask. I much prefer it to the really fresh and floral Open Day 2019 15yo

One degree better than Open Day, not bad, but not too exciting whisky.
    • Nose
Varnished wood, vanilla, sawdust, musty cellar and yellow fruits.
    • Taste
Powerful. Citruses, sawdust, honey and pepper. Touch of yellow fruits.
    • Finish
      Long, spicy, oaky.
