I quite like it overall, as the wine is present without completely overtaking.
    • Nose
Soft notes of honey and ripe apple parts, red apple skin, as well as cinnamon and cloves. There's a touch of bung cloth, as well as Maraschino cherries and cocoa powder. The fruitiness remains the dominant aroma though.
    • Taste
A nice viscosity and initial sweetness, highlighted by candied apricots, honey comb and fudge, as well as a touch of kirsch liqueur. It's also quite dry and there's a good amount of oak tannins here.
    • Finish
Drying and spicy. Mocha and nutmeg.

In fact, I find it very similar to the Napa Valley Finish I've tasted before.

It surprised me for a finish, I'm not a fan of "finishes" of any kind, but there are exceptions. This is one of them. The honey and herbal notes give the wine notes an interesting heaviness and depth, I really liked it. Would be 86 points.
    • Nose
      88 88
Deep notes of heavy, spicy forest honey and overlaid with a layer of spicy, fruity red wine. This blanket gradually weakens, making room for honey, pineapple, strawberries
    • Taste
      86 86
The red wine is strongly in the foreground, furry, dry, dark wild berries, currants, velvety in the mouth
    • Finish
      84 84
dry red wine in the mouth, then light, somewhat bitter oak spice.

Good Whisky to start with, none peaty, but for me personal, the finish is to fast.

  11. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 60 points Connoisseur

OK, this is not my malt at all. I've had a few Pomerol finishes, I don't like this one. Failed or not to my liking, I had trouble finishing the malt. failed.
    • Nose
Light, sweet, vinous on the nose, rather sugary, a few strawberries, rosé wine. Vinegar, some honey and a hint of oak.
    • Taste
Extremely strange in the mouth, the wine finish completely messes up the aroma.
Bitter thin a little sour and then this overwhelming, almost disgusting aroma from the barrel, which I rarely have so extreme. It gets better on the third sip, but only slightly.
    • Finish
The finish makes it appear thin and bitter, at least the wine can hardly be felt, unfortunately a little bit. But the chicory bitterness follows.

I often find off putting leather notes in those wine casks, a bit like boiled cabbage, then dark fruits, toffee, pretty basic but ok

First things first: I like it. However, it is a bit on the light side for me. I like a little more punch in my whisky. That doens't mean I don't enjoy this though. I think this is a nice accesible dram and a good wine finish. I'm not too keen on finishes and certainly not the winey ones, but this one is kinda nice.

Drunk during a tasting last Sunday. Surprisingly tasty! Soft sweet, honey, caramel fudche, slightly spicy. Very accessible. The wine finish certainly doesn't hurt this whisky.

This whisky actually deserves to be bottled at a higher alcohol percentage (46+) !!

    • Nose
Red fruits at first, such as red berries and strawberries. Followed by a layer of honey and red apples. Some fresh oranges in the very background, but then it goes towards cherries. Cinnamon too.
    • Taste
Sweet but not overly sweet. Honey and chocolate. Red apples again. There’s a bit of cinnamon and a touch of ginger. Caramel, some chocolate too. Oranges. Later cherries here as well. Slightly oaky.
    • Finish
The finish is mid-long, somewhat drying but not unpleasant. Oranges in the background, cocoa powder and nutmeg.

    Christmas

While Aberfeldy is still mostly used as the heart of the popular Dewar’s blend, it was revamped in 2014 and put back on the map as a single malt. Today I try the new Limited Edition, a 15 years old that got a regular maturation on bourbon refill and re-char casks before being finished for another 5 months on Pomerol red wine casks from Bordeaux. It is the brainchild of Malt Master Stephanie MacLeod.

The typical soft nose with a truckload of honey and red apples shows itself immediately, while the influence of the robust red wine is limited to some cinnamon, Christmas cake spices, coconut, cocoa and Maraschino cherries. If you fear the wine would dominate the soft spirit, you need not worry.

It is soft and immediately sweet again, which is no surprise at all. The honey comes first with nougat, cherry liqueur and apricots in its wake. Hint of Reine Claude plums and gooseberries. Cinnamon with a hint of cloves. A soft peppery note and lovely touches of wood. But at no point does the malt turn winey nor oaky. This is Christmas in your glass.

The finish is mildly drying on cocoa and nutmeg.

Nice Aberfeldy in which the finish on wine casks brings something extra, without the loss of character of the malt. Pleasant surprise. Just 60 EUR? This one can go under the Christmas tree.

Nose: Strong cherry flavor, like the sweetened morello cherries from the glass. Grandma's Danube wave with vanilla, caramel, gummy, slightly grassy. He is something for the sweet fraction, very sweet pleasant and extremely fruity nose, nice intense with many red and light fruits. The vanilla underlines the fruitiness and milk chocolate comes with some oak. Very subliminally a bit mineral, with the addition of herbs.

Taste: mild and oily, then sweet again, this is really a Gummibärchentüte in the glass: D then the oak comes to the sweet fruit with slight dryness, incredibly tasty with strong, balanced aromas. The oak is much stronger at the second sip, now with cocoa and a lot of chocolate.

Departure: The first sip is quite short, the second time the oak beats: seasoning, cocoa, espresso with dark malt, forest honey. It is drier but still very tasty and pleasant.

Mhhh delicious malt, incredibly mild, tasty and fruity without being too lax. These wine barrels have done to me at the time simply, you can tell the bourbon barrel but also by the strong vanilla which fits great with the fruits.
