Whisky Reviews for Secret Highland 1987 WN

I rated this more than their 35yo secret highland joint bottling with liquid art.
    Colour: Copperish gold
Nose: Loads of apricot. Plums. Leaf tobacco. Excellent old whisky with the sherry cask influence reflecting quite well.
Palate: Gorgeous. Soft cinnamon. Orange peels. Oakiness. Some dry fruits. A big walnut note. Dry and vanishing. Gentle and mild. Unlike new age whiskies where there’s a lot of ‘on your face’ punchiness, this one is a soft mellowed down aged giant.
Finish: Very long with dry fruitiness, maltiness and some oakiness. Lasts long.

These the whiskies that reassure my taking to whiskies. Old style. No jumboree. No prickly feel. Yet quite a giant. Wonderful whisky. I rate this higher than the 35 yo because I find this profile more intriguing and not on the face sherry but a well infused one.

    • Nose
Strawberries and apricots with a touch cocoa powder and cappuccino. Subtle notes of beeswax too. Initially more on the fresh red fruit spectrum than the dark and intensely sherried side, yet there's still room for notes of plums, menthol and leather, as well as tobacco.
    • Taste
Oily mouthfeel and a fairly dry arrival. A touch of damp oak, nutmeg and cloves, followed by aniseed and mushrooms. Touches of leather and chocolate.
    • Finish
Lingering spices and notes of bitter espresso and oak, followed by dark chocolate. The finish actually pushes this up a notch.

Rather shy on the nose but comes out very fruity on the palate - mostly apricots - really not bad

Nutty, walnuts, old wooden cabinet, cooked fruits, cooked oranges, little apricot jam, spices, cloves, hints of vanilla, copper coins, whiffs of smoke or peat?
