This is not a beginners dram. It took me quite a while to get into it. Patience, time and adding water very carefully and stage wise, brought me a great dram. I guess this one had just enough time inside the cask. A longer stay would have matured this into a Glensherry or a Woodsky I guess.
    • Nose
This is rich and well matured for it’s rather young age. It is a big fish in need of a big amount of water. I added 7ml on a 30ml sample before this one came to me. But after this puzzle, it’s nose turned out great. Red bush tea, autumn forrest, wet leaves, shoe polish, orange fruits as wel as a fine layer of wood. The nose even gets kind of waxy. Very well layered. A complex dram.
    • Taste
Thick and syrupy. Also a bit tart. It needs water for the taste too. Enough water deliver a smooth and wel rounded dram. Lots of sherry influences here. There is a subtle nuttiness, almond I’d say. Also there are several spices like ginger, pepper and chili.
    • Finish
Without a doubt long. It is fully flavored and well balanced. I get raisins, leather, spices and fruit flavored pipe tobacco and dark chocolate. There is quite a lot going on in the finish. This is the part where it proves to be a night filling dram.

In some ways this dram has quite a ‘common’ style but in other ways it proves to be a complex stunner which gives quite a challenge to get to the bottom of what it had to offer.

An absolute good version of Glenallachie. It is not a Glensherry like you get them these days. But a very well matured an well selected whisky!

This has a very beautiful nose! Very nice and layered. Little fruit notes but overall there are some leather and shoe polish notes. There are some tangerines in the background.

Full and creamy arrival. Very deep sherry notes, loads of leather, tobacco and chocolate.

Long length. Again loads of the sherry influence, but proper matured. Not the Glensherry whisky you find everywhere. Deep notes of tobacco and chocolate. A very little bit bitter in the background, but nothing to worry about.

One of my friends warned me already; Glenallacie could follow in the footsteps of Glendronach. He brought this bottle in at one of our tastings a few weeks ago. Except for the 10y Glenallacie, this is my first experience with this, to me, unknown distillery.

Beautiful! Fruity, sweet with the high abv very well integrated. Much more subtle I would say. Different from, and less earthy then Glendronach.

Although not required I added some drops of water. Full body a continuation of fruitiness and sweetness. Spices make the tongue tickle; pepper for sure. Warm mouth-feeling. Full PX influence of course; but not like a "Glen Sherry". There was no need to leave 25 liters of sherry in the cask before poring the new make. This has its own quality.

Medium long. No disappointment here; might have been somewhat longer to make it a real classic. Oily and waxy till the end.
