It is an absolute shame that Glenmorangie no longer makes bottlings of this type.
Old school sherry malt. Just lovely!
    • Nose
Immediately a definite sherry influence. lovage rum raisins. Orange. Beef broth. figs
Changes beautifully between deep dark sweetness and savory notes. Sometimes even a touch dirty.
    • Taste
Spicy, sticky forest honey. Heavy sherry sweetness. Candied Oranges. Great creamy mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      Warming, sweet, some oak, long.

Decent sherried nose, but for me the palate lacks balance, all the flavours are fighting rather than complimenting each other.
That said on the plus side the spice note is nice on the finish which is the best part.
I wonder if later versions were any better?

Glenmorangie Sherry Wood finish 12 years in American oak then a finish in sherry butt's how long ??? 43% Tasted on 28.06.2016 Color: pale amber Nose: very mild, you notice the whisky directly, that it comes from another time. And once again I realize that I was just born too late. Beautiful ripe fruit, berries, fresh green apples and pears, scented forest berries, a wonderful dose of spicy oak. Flowery light notes. Something light earthy mixes now with the vanilla from the American oak barrel. The seasoning becomes more and more clear over time. Great how this whisky developed within twenty minutes. Tongue: the alcohol is barely perceptible, even on the tongue makes this drop a wonderfully rounded and velvety impression. The dark berries clearly through and mingle with forest honey Finish: Marvelously sweet, fruits and a hint of bittersweet chocolate remain. Conclusion: Really a very nice malt that clearly shows that today's NAS-12-year-old simple standards can not be produced as much with so much time and dedication as they were in the 70s - 80s. 83/100 points

    • Nose
Sweet earthy saltiness with much in the way of fruit. Red grapes, blackberries
      and raspberries.
    • Taste
The saltiness comes through more here but it's still fairly smooth and sweet. The freshness is still there
    • Finish
Length with some earthy dryness balancing the sweet fruit.
