This whisky is actually at least 9 years old and is a 50/50 vatting of first-fill bourbon barrels and first-fill Oloroso Sherry butts. Overall a good quality malt. The high ABV certainly does show itself and takes a little away from the overall experience. It takes water very well. Value (£45) : 9/10
    • Nose
Very malty up front with cereal and barley water. Honeyed sweetness, vanilla and a touch of caramel. Distillery character with some citrus peel, crisp green apples and pears. Buttered rye bread. Oloroso casks provide hazelnuts with some dried figs and plums but these do not overpower the character of the malt. A touch of ginger warmth with some cinnamon and cardamom. Then some golden syrup and a cooling mint. There is solvent astringency but time in the glass helps calm things slightly and allows more flavour to come through.
    • Taste
Big and bold flavours up front, very much showing both the bourbon and sherry notes very well. Not as sweet as the nose. The delicate honey and cereal malt notes are present throughout. Orange peels, nectarines, red cherries and plums. More astringency. Marzipan and ginger biscuits. The heat is turned up with some cracked black pepper as well. An almost salt-like note that helps bring the flavours together.
    • Finish
Medium in length and drying. More of the fruits from the palate continue here and fade into more warmth. A bitterness lingers as well, like very overbrewed black tea.

Was the best for me in the Coronalympics CL1, blind tasting. Surprisingly.

Good example of successful cask strength. Becoming more elegant with water.
    • Nose
Alcoholic on the nose, sweet, well fruity.
    • Taste
Strong and massive, very sweet, only a slight fruitiness.
    • Finish
Vanilla tapering for a long time, clean and long-lasting.

First of all, very malty, cereals and black bread. The alcohol can also be felt with water. Light fruits and perfume. Vanilla pushes forward, shortbread and butterscotch.

Malt and dried, light-colored fruits. Vanilla and pastries. Citrus and banana.
    • Finish

The fruit notes and the malt remain for a relatively long time. Gets dry. Little seasoning.
