An excellent nose, with a good combination of dried fruits and interesting sourness. Less old sherry notes than I thought. For those that don't know, sherry notes in modern springbank are sometimes iffy, but in an older Springbank, can mean an additional $1-2k.

Definitely not as fresh and bright as the nose. For such a reputable Springbank, the palate seems a bit subdued to be honest. It's still delicious, but I just expected more from an older Springbank. The fruits aren't as bright here. I need to taste this again under better circumstances probably -- we opened this on the 17th floor penthouse on a cold, windy NYC day. Our bad.
    • Finish

Nuts and milk chocolates. Pleasant enough, but wish it was a bit longer.

I was definitely not overwhelmed by this Springbank.

H2h with the John mitchell and Henley g Wright I think that one is my least favourite though it’s a great dram due to some rubbery notes but it’s still excellent

Amber pour. Nose is apple candy and other presentations of apple, floral meadow, soft spices (coriander). Mouth is pleasantly sweet and tart with more green apple, pie crust, brown sugar. Sharp and pleasantly hot. Not peat-forward at all, but sharp in the tart apple flavors. Really nice. Above Hedley Wright 21, below John Mitchell 21.

So well done. Good everywhere, good in every way.
    • Nose
On the nose, very nice wood essence on pine and oak. Superb intensity for a reduced. Hot nuts under loose soil. Mixture of nutmeg and cinnamon. Superb on dried apricot. A touch of acidity and cooked caramel. Light wax with a nice dust. Nice freshness on the pineapple when aired.
    • Taste
Less fresh on the palate than on the nose. Lots of dried figs that melt on the tongue, plums in the process of stewing, a nice, very pleasant acidity, woody and not at all metallic.
    • Finish
Intense and very long finish, suave on salted butter caramel, comforting and friendly on wax, leather. Cocoa toast and ounce of bitter smoke.

The nose alone is to die for, full of precious stuff (wax, woods, honeys, fruits...). Mouth is less vivid, and finishes on a slight woody bitterness.

This is to die for. Reduce me to the size of a pinhead, and I'll dive in my glass.
This is full of wax-polish, precious woods (sandalwood, cedar), tinned pineaple, foaming zabaione with cooked mirabelles, a pinch of sawdust, and high end honeys (chestnut, leatherwood)... "Is that a rum?" asks my youngest daughter. Could have been...
    • Taste
      91 91
Less fruits than on the nose, and less vivid, but very tasty still, and heavily concentrated. Chocolate coated honeycomb. Mokaccino. Toffee apple.
    • Finish
      89 89
Slightly bitter now. Over infused tee?

    Colour:
    Copper / Amontillado Sherry
    Nose:
Perfect! Plums, blueberries, tobacco, smoke, leather, dry cardboard, well integrated wood, nuts and the finest furniture polish. The seasoning is only slightly pronounced, so that the fruity-dull aromas can expand their dominance - which we like very much with this excellent nose!
    Taste:
Soft and absolutely harmonious. Fruity with lots of honey, subtle spice, smoke and juicy herbs - fresher and invigorating with grapefruit, apricots, mint, as well as notes of coffee, mocha and chocolate - fantastic!
    Finish:
Medium long - sweetly soft and now with dark aromas. The fruit here is not particularly "fat" and the notes of chocolate, walnut, mocha, coffee and sweet vanilla notes prevail.

Very classic old sherry dram, a bit watery.
    • Nose
Old school sherry, fermented beancurd, leather and fresh grapes.
    • Taste
A bit watery, quite spicy despite low ABV, sherry and leather, grapefruits and orange, well balanced
    • Finish
      Long treacle and dates.

Really superb. In my opinion this 21yo Springbank is rather underestimated compared to some other Springbanks that are not even close to this one. One of my favorite Springbanks that is still available here and there.
    • Nose
Intensive and rich notes of sweet sherry, blood oranges, honey, jam and touches of vanilla, oak wood, citrus fruits and some more aromas.
    • Taste
Perfect balance of sherry and a fruity sweetness. Punchy but though smooth and oily, citrusy. Apricots, mango and oranges again.
    • Finish
Long and spicy. A bit peppery with again some sweet notes, oak wood and really faint touches of vanilla.

Well this was excellent with a great nose. Some people say Springbank is over rated but on the strength of this plus a 25year I tried a few months back it deserves its high praise.
    • Nose
      February 2012.
      marzipan, sherry, sweet creosote.
    • Taste
Sugary sweetness, honeyed, marzipan again, oranges.
    • Finish
      sweet, long and soothing.
