He has honestly earned his current rating. Can't imagine right now what a whisky without smoke should do even better, definitely in the mouth. The nose could be a little bit better and in the finish the last icing on the cake is missing, but these are only the reasons why it is "only" 93 points.
    • Nose
It is definitely not on the sweet side of the sherry, dry, dark chocolate, plums, a little bit sour, tobacco, leathery, now it is creamy, also a little bit sweet, the chocolate is lighter, a little warming up helps it, dark, heavy, set, oak , but also some freshness due to the sour fruit
    • Taste
oily, beautiful, raisin concentrate, intense, fruity, a little sweet, but the mouthfeel is dry, heavy, salt on the palate, a short taste explosion, a little liquorice, not even that much oak, a little tobacco, but not too woody, the second sip is so nice and creamy, everything is so intense, every single aroma fits, now even a little bit of dark chocolate, it's so much fun, doesn't need water!
    • Finish
slightly nutty, still clearly salt on the palate, dark chocolate, the mouth is full of aromas, still sherry, long-lasting

The extremely good rating here in the whisky base and from Jim Murray make me very curious, especially since it is my favorite distillery. I am happy to see the whisky in the glass with its reddish-brown color.

In the nose I immediately have an incredibly pleasant fruitiness with boiled cherries, plum jam, raisins, dates and a pleasant acidity of currants and sour cherries. If you warm the glass with your hands, the acidic note becomes stronger, but is never annoying. The fruitiness is accompanied by some pepper, cinnamon, a lot of dark chocolate with pieces of caramel. There is a heavy honey sweetness above everything and in the background you can see leather, old furniture wood and a light menthol note. A wonderful nose: strong and soft at the same time, because everything harmonizes wonderfully, fruity, sweet, pleasant tannins and spiciness ... excellent! I also hoped for the variety of flavors.

In the mouth incredibly strong, intense, oily and sweet. The mouth is literally flooded! Wow! It really tingles and sizzles on the tongue and yet the pure whisky can be enjoyed very well and I don't even want to add water to this fantastic drop. The heavy sweetness is accompanied by dates, raisins, boiled red fruits, plum jam and strong pepper. The tannins become stronger with coffee beans covered with chocolate, some tobacco and leather. The tannins do not outweigh the taste experience, but form the perfect partner for this fruity, heavy sweetness. I'm excited!

In the finish, the sweetness sticks in the mouth, the raisins and dates are still clearly noticeable. In addition to the caramel, the chocolate is now mixed with a few nuts, in the background you can feel a very light salt note. But not maritime, but rather like salty caramel. From the second sip you can still feel some liquorice. The finish is long and simply wonderful. A creamy and slightly dry mouthfeel suggests to me: Have another sip! Treat yourself! And I cannot resist this request ...

Overall a top whisky! Just like the 1990er 28y PX puncheon from Glendronach, we're playing in the Champions League again. This is a whisky that hits my taste buds. Whether I find him better than my current favorites (1990s 28y PX puncheon from batch 17) is difficult to say without a direct comparison.

I get good 93/100 points, as was the case with the 1990s. An excellent whisky!

Decided to get it as was informed by the shop staff that it's just won 22-28 years category of Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020 scoring 94.5 and described as liquid gold.
It's not cheap but my only regret at the moment is that I got one bottle only. I hope to hunt down one more bottle for future. Liquid gold indeed!

Cherry, walnut, chocolate, cocoa, bit of tobacco leaf. All very well balanced and rounded.

      Rich & long long finish.

This is the second best whisky I've ever tasted. The rating is of course subjective.

To put it in perspective: My best whisky I've ever tasted is the Bowmore 30 years Dragon in a ceramic bottle.

A really good barrel, everything is very harmonious and balanced. The sherry influence is there but is not overwhelming. No darksherry. Especially the mouthfeel completely convinced me. The oak is there but never becomes too powerful. Can I have some more, please!
    • Nose
At first he shows himself closed to me and makes it clear that he has more to offer than just sherry. The aroma is subtle and complex. Fruity but very set and dusty.
    • Taste
In the mouth, he fully plays his class. The barrel is not so foreground and so the distillery character can be shown nicely, everything is nicely interwoven. It is oily, spicy, sweet and sour in the mouth. Even undiluted, it is wonderfully elegant and has no trace of alcoholic stinging.
    • Finish
The finish is long and leaves a sweet as from pipe tobacco.
