Insanely fantastic nose! Finally a whisky with the "old bottle flavor" Old wood, minimal smoke, dusty library. Very very complex. Pronounced spiciness. Cinnamon, rum fruits, candied nuts. Thoughts of Christmas ...
Sweet musty sherry in the mouth, very gentle, mild in the alcohol but concentrated aromas. Very oily and spicy-dry. Lots of oak but without unpleasant bitterness. Something full milk chocolate and then at the very end of the throat is really salty, so pronounced salt notes I had on a whisky never.
The finish is long, astringent-earthy. The tongue tingles something, everything warms slowly, I'm happy.
Insanity part. For real! believe me. Today I give 91 points with air up.

No doubt a great whisky that will find its fans. Nice cask distillery relationship, excellent alcohol and a wonderful sweetness, BUT I'm annoyed by this rum note in the nose. Also, long breathing did not help. I'm still glad to have a sample and will give him a chance in a few weeks.

I fully underline the Roman note.

The mildness in the taste is very pleasant and makes the Ben Nevis interesting ..... Give the whisky time and warm the Nosingglas nice in the hand and the Ben Nevis unfolds more and more, and is getting better.

      golden brown
Rum pot rises in the nose, fat raisins and smoky wood and warm dates without bacon
this guy likes to breathe, because then leather, old library with dusty leather bindings
Cinnamon comes out in the back, paired with baked apple fresh wind from the open oven door
I also hear peat, only the mentioned salt note bwz sea breeze
?!? could be that the open bottle must leave something?!?
    • Taste
      90 90
It oilyly runs down the tongue, like peat, dust and fat raisins
Strong and various spices tickle the palate. Cardamom, salt licorice, wood discreet, espresso notes

Stay present for a long time

That's all sorts of things: a currant and fruit gum brake track, which could also be called a present sherry note, and which strongly reminds me of the old 10 OA, only more solid and not so dirty.

Oh yeah, it's also round in the mouth :)
Give full fruit gum is the motto, the alcohol carries the aromas super, and the whole thing is nice and oily.

At the finish you notice the age, I like to walk for a while on the bright, untreated oak parquet and continue to chew on the now sour sour sherry fruit.

Surprisingly fermented / yeasty for old age, with distinct fermentation aromas (sourdough, sauerkraut ...). Behind it nice refill sherry notes, also on the sour side, slightly nutty-creamy and delicately fruity, but you can also feel some rubber (sulfur). Everything rather mellow and set and not "in your face": apricot jam, shortbread biscuits, vanilla curd, natural apple juice, red currants. In the third place, I notice something that reminds of the typical Ben Nevis "dirtiness": machine oil, jute sack and coal cellar. I probably would not have thought of BN blindly and would have guessed Glenfarclas. The peach and / or elderberry aroma that is otherwise so common at BN is nowhere to be found. Wood only becomes perceptible over time (and after the first sips). Overall very interesting, "natural" and lively, but personally almost a little too impetuous for me for 21 years (looks more like 16-18 years).

Acid-mineral appearance, then it becomes tart and spicy, almost slightly peppery in the middle, before creamy and fruity sweetness flash in the end. Beautiful roasted aromas in the finish and this slightly dirty oiliness that always reminds me of workshops and boiler rooms. Very complex and deep, with a varied taste development and significantly more Nevis DNA than in the nose. I find it really difficult to isolate individual tastes, everything is very closely interwoven and maybe a bit "mushy" - which is not meant negatively here. Nothing that keeps you busy all night long and invites you to search for flavors, but a great, calm, classically oriented drinking whisky.
Drinkable without water, nothing burns, but it can take a few drops and is a bit rounder and more fruity.

Tart, acidic, sooty / "charred". Maybe a little too oaky at the end when a few minutes have passed.

The first impression is violent and a bit impetuous, but then a very exciting and multifaceted whisky develops.
Typical Whisky Doris bottling ... give it time and you will be amazed.

The Ben Nevis "dirt" literally gets in your nose and I mean that positively.
In terms of smell, we are more likely to be in a workshop here. Grease, rubber, car tires ... the fruit notes have a hard time. The sherry can also show itself, but it has to fight. I also have some sulfur ...
A few boiled apples, raisins and dried fruit on the horizon.

It is unexpectedly different in the mouth. Almost harmonious and incredibly sweet. Lots of fir honey.
Still strong, tobacco and leather are added, the oak doesn't hold back either. And above all the car workshop and the "Ben Nevis dirt" drone .....

      Rather medium-length, dry, fine

    Delicious.
    • Nose
jepp, I already know after the first smell that I like it, chocolate, slightly sour and the right portion of sulfur, a slight hint of sauerkraut, nice and creamy, cold cocoa, a little oak with furniture polish, plum, pretty straightforward
    • Taste
Oily, shortly sweet, chocolate, bittersweet, then suddenly raisins massive, syrupy, the sulfur flashes, slightly nutty, roasted aromas, light acidity, but no sauerkraut, after the start also a bit tart oak, pleasant mouthfeel
    • Finish
Nuts, raisins, maybe a little bit of sauerkraut, slightly tart, the oak becomes a bit more dominant, but still creamy

Beautiful Ben Nevis, he takes time and then beguiles with a real flood of flavors, great alcohol, I think he doesn't need water, very calm sherry butt, not overloaded at all, the Ben Nevis distillery character is wonderfully tasty.
Thanks to Thimo for the sample
