    Simply sublime.
    • Nose
Beautiful nose. Red fruit, camphor, prune, plum, strawberry, cherry, noble wood, bitter chocolate. Oily leather. Licorice. Very nice sherry
    • Taste
In the mouth it's sweet. Alcohol is perfectly integrated. On the red fruits, a little exoticism. The wood is noble and camphorated. Light dust, old book.
    • Finish
Finale on old sherry, cherry, strawberry, very noble wood and cocoa. Mango, pineapple.

Very complex, round and the sweetness is really not disturbing but fits perfectly into my overall impression. This is already my winner of the day - just flabbergasting!
    • Nose
      94 94
Intense, fruity, dry sherry wood, nutty, dried fruits, hints of raisins, dark chocolate, acacia honey, nutmeg, cloves, pepper, hints of leather and rubber boots, cooked oranges, jam - very good!
    • Taste
      96 96
Very very oily and creamy, sirupy, liquorice, plenty of dried fruits and sweetness, plums, prune, sweet figs, molasses, chocolate, mocha, more spices, more good sherry wood - superb!
    • Finish
      95 95
Long, warm, sweet and sticky, fruity

Gorgeous old Bruichladdich, and the farther in the glass the better, superb!

Tonight its a mid 1960's Bruichladdich face off, lowest abv first    https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/8797/bruichladdich-1968-mi

    https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/30927/bruichladdich-centenary this is a 15 year bottled in 1981  https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/14053/bruichladdich-1966  https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/16892/bruichladdich-1965    Result

    1 -  Penny Black

    2 - Reserva Veroneli

3 - 1965 Samaroli but splitting hairs with the Reserva Veroneli

    4 - Centenary

The 1968 Penny Black MI wins because it had a little more of everything and at only 46% had the most to offer on the palate.

There is really nothing between the  Reserva Veronelli 1966 and the 10 year Samaroli 1965 only that the Veronelli you could tell the extra years had added a little extra to the profile but the Samaroli 10 year is a belter for one so young.  Although the centenary was last again hardly anything in it and all 4 of these Laddie are great bottlings and this was a really enjoyable H2H

This is really good, water is not needed.
    • Nose
It is all on orange and peat with warm pastries and then some peach comes in, with a little spice.
    • Taste
Orange marmalade,  plum loads of peat, spices peach again and some apricot. It then almost gets a little rough with the spice and peat but I think that is entertaining.
    • Finish
Gets more spicy towards the finish but it is a long one

[2015]  I had this dram during a private tasting of whisky connoisseurs at Limburg.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 92,5.  I took no detailed notes as there were simply too many drams...  Every connoisseur brought several bottles from his collection to the tasting where they were lined up by common decision.  Just 1 cl was served as otherwise we probably would not have seen the end of the tasting without medical problems.

As this was a flabbergasting event I list all the line-up and my resp. scores below:

[November, 2009]  I had this during the 10th Anniversary Tasting of MaRa at Limburg.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 92,5.  My notes state a slightly punchy nose on floor wax, raisins and herbs.  The mouthfeel is quite peppery and the taste mainly on chocolate and liquorice flavours.

The line-up of this evening was stunning if not decadent (again):
