Fruit explosion in the nose! Very tropical: passion fruit, pineapple, a little vanilla, almost like rum.

Very sweet in the mouth, almost like fortified honey. In the finish there is a dried fig note and white pepper.
    Length: 3/10

Nice smelling whisky, but much too sweet in the mouth.
    Grade: 2

All in all a fine, nicely palatable malt from the Madeira barrel. The watery-looking moments on the palate disturb the very good overall impression. But somehow it doesn't get any worse.

At first a somewhat restrained start, then incredibly sweet, fruit drops, honey, some marzipan with vanilla biscuits, fresh pastries, fruity like mandarins, oranges. The fruity, sweet components seem more artificial in nature. Light notes of wine in the background with some powdered sugar. Smells soft and gentle, very pleasant.
    • Taste
      84 84
Creamy, oily appearance with oak spice and a tingling heat. Then these fruity, sweet aromas come through explosively. Pears, mandarins with soft fruit come through. Almost more intense than on the nose. As soon as this fruitiness fades a bit, it appears slightly watery with a bit bitter notes of coffee and chocolate. There is also some vanilla.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium-long finish, vanilla, sweet, oak-spicy comes back and merges into tart chocolate.

Not wrong, a not very typical Glenfarclas bottling. I liked the first Gliese even better. Full review (in german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/02/26/glenfarclas-eine-vertikale/

The Madeira barrel ripening has delivered a distinctly independent result: this is not a typical Glenfarclas. Very interesting, but a sample is enough for me.
    • Nose
      84 84
Initially a bit closed. Sweet and spicy over time. Wine, grape must, roasted almonds and honey, adhesive note. In particular, the fruity aromas are set on top. The alcohol remains present and a bit spicy.

With some water even sweeter and a little more supple. Now comes the sweet pastry of Glenfarclas, but still fruity and vinous, plum compote, subtle vanilla, and quite spicy.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet, then very strong onset, tingling almost spicy, then surprisingly watery, sweet pastries, some bitter coffee, walnut, nice and spicy.

With water: sweet, spicy, still very strong onset but less spicy, getting dry, intense, dark cocoa, creamy dark chocolate, nuts
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium to long, spicy, nice dark chocolate, coffee powder, nuts.

With water remains a very delicious, long-lasting chocolate taste in the mouth, sweet fruit compote, then very spicy and slightly bitter - from chocolate is baking cocoa, I like it very much.

Most likely to be a Glenfarclas

Fine Notes of the Gliese II:
Thanks to Thomas Schneider for the sample

Nose: extreme fruit, atypical for Glenfarclas, the Madeira Pass makes for a surprising impact in otherwise typical character, sweet, lighter, lighter fruits, fruit tea with sugar, almonds, cotton candy, later with a lot of rest in the glass biting
Mouth: immediately before swallowing extremely sweet, slightly tingling through the 58.3%, but not (too) spicy, very sweet fruits, sugared berries, dark caramel, again cotton candy, then lead nuts and dark chocolate over into the very spicy finish Even sweeter with water, maybe the sweetest mouthfeel I've ever had
Appearance: without water long and spicy, with increasing, first tender, later medium bitterness, the sweetness is superimposed - with some water another picture, here again the sweetness with bitterness only gains in the background, only lasts a little less long
Conclusion: great product, without question, the sweetness you have to like, I find it exciting. Not infinitely complex, but pleasant and exciting, suitable for grip and thinner, try!
