    Needs time to breathe.

Then comes cookie dough followed by campfire.
At first a bit sprittig but calmer with time. The sherry comes out well and harmonizes with the smoke. Very nice combination at the price.

The positive surprise of online tasting.

    Color: rich gold
    • Nose
Smoke, sweet, slightly like stall, peach, hard sausage
    • Taste
extremely strong, salt, square sausage, peach, wood
    • Finish
long, dry, salt, wood, square sausage

Needs some air or a bottle that is at least a third empty. Then a nice sherry smoke bomb for a good price. Tolerates some water.
    • Nose
Bacon-like smoke, smoked ham, paprika-peanut flips, maritime sea air, black pepper, seaweed, sherry notes behind. Over time, sweetness of dried dates.
    • Taste
Strong start, peanut flips, some spiciness, white pepper, chilli, peat smoke. Then red berries, dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Relatively long, at the beginning still sherry, then the smoke and ashes remain.

Peanuts! Lots of peanuts! A little burned plastic on the side.

  5. Totoro scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Young but pretty solid; the extra effort that apparently went into sourcing the sherry casks pays off.

However, when confronted with peated bottlings like this, I always ask myself the same question: why would I pay more for this young cask-strength stuff than for a bottle of Lagavulin 16, with its infinitely larger degrees of harmony, depth and complexity?

Farmy, greasy, earthy. Smoked peanuts and bacon. Young, yeasty, and brash, but not too much so. Solidly sherried with a dusty edge. No first-fill, wet-cask bullshit, but nicely reserved and softly fruity refill Oloroso aromas.

Pretty aggressive, needs dilution badly. Still a lot of roast peanuts and soft red berries. Water brings out more of the juicy, fruity and pretty flawless sherry notes. The peated spirit is less impressive on the tongue than on the nose though. Here, the youth is more palpable.

Long enough, with earthy peat. A bit hollow though, hinting at the young age of the spirit.

Sharp in the nose, piercing. Speckled with (much) water. After 15 minutes a sweetie.

Taste: ashes, ashes, burning. With water and time, the malt then catches. Not creamy on the tongue, rather strong on the sour side. The fruit of the finish has no chance when you get bright fruits, then as a torrent in the palate - pop and gone. The aromas are not interwoven with me.

Drops to the back quickly, flat, almost pappig.

Yes, you want to feel the whims, you also have the fruit. Price is still fair. But in total ... more for effect drinkers
