One of the best, if not the best, of many good Glenlivets single tasks in recent years. This one is also 12 years old, which you can also notice - in the finish there is hardly any oak, but due to alcohol it has a clear sharpness, which decreases pleasantly with a little water and time (1 hour).
The nose is incredible (92p.), Soaked prune, cotton candy, sherry lovers will never get their money's worth more than here. The aroma is also great (91P.), More of what the nose already suspected, dark fruit, candy. Without water I find the finish too short, unnuanced and burning with fire (88P.). A total of 90 points, you can certainly think about 91 points.
The price is steep, but it's the year 2020. Glendronach hasn't cut out such a good young SC for a long time. I recently had a couple of Glengoynes playing in a similar league, but they may cost more. From this perspective, everyone has to decide for themselves whether this whisky, which is actually € 50 too expensive, is worth it. Given the lack of competition, I say: yes.

This whisky doesn't need a barrel strength. He needs water up to an alcohol level of 43-46%.
I rate it for the version with water. Without water, the rating would have dropped below 80.
By leaps and bounds, I would compare it with the work of Edradour.

    • Nose
Bright tones of barley porridge, peppery, rather bold, distant fruit tones and tones of prunes, figs, dates and vanilla, light grassy notes.
      Roasted hazelnuts, roasted raisins.
With water, the aroma does not lose, but the yeast and light sulfur content are more clearly felt.
    • Taste
Very, very sharp and rough, yeast, prunes, chocolate, a lot of tannins and as a result dryness, medical rubber in very small quantities.
      We desperately need water!
With water, pure sherry is revealed in the form of medical rubber and a powerful sweetness, peanut butter. Sweetness with water 8 out of 10. It is impossible to determine the level of sweetness in cask strength.
    • Finish
The dryness of tannins further develops towards sherry with its licorice acidity, rubbery and chocolatey sweetness.

  5. Highlander65 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Great good whisky, tasty, juicy, with exceptional alcohol management.
    • Nose
coconut, custard, butter, a little anise and sage, perfectly integrated alcohol, fruity notes come out with water
    • Taste
you can feel alcohol in the mouth, but you can drink it straight without any problem, the taste corresponds to the smell, therefore it has creamy and buttery notes with hints of coconut and almonds, slightly tannic. With water it becomes more docile, fruity and tasty
    • Finish
      long, creamy.

Aroma: dried fruits, dark raisins, prunes, dates, wax, menthol, lacquered wood, toffee. Very bright aroma and slightly biting on this fortress. With water, it becomes more pliable, dressed leather, vanilla, something salty, like a spicy brine, appear, fresh fruits appear, sweet tropical ones, the oak becomes more palpable.

Taste: bright, hot, red pepper, hot spices and herbs, dried fruits, woody tannins.
With water - the same red pepper, but more delicate, dark raisins, prunes and their peels, dark chocolate, tobacco, pleasant wood and varnish, moderately sweet.

Finish: long, buttery, dark dried fruits, wax, raisins in chocolate, tingling spices, the feeling of oil on the tongue remains for a long time.

    Score: 89

Bottom line: a sherry monster on a slaughter fortress, it is imperative to dilute it, and not only because water helps it open up, but simply it is not comfortable to drink in the native fortress. Explosive whisky, very bright, albeit not very multifaceted, but the whisky is memorable, and you need to keep in mind that this is only 12 years old, good work.

Amazing Glenlivet, transcendental degree is not felt and is easy to drink without adding water. A very whole whisky, especially when it stands in an open bottle for a while, excessive aggression goes away and it becomes enveloping and enticing into its strong arms.
    • Nose
      88 88
Dried fruits, raisins, toasted nuts, salted spices, menthol candy, dense and bright
    • Taste
      89 89
bright and spicy, explodes with a bouquet of spices, grated walnuts, dried fruits. later a tart pear and old noble wood emerge
    • Finish
      88 88
pear in honey, persimmon, old sherry, raisins and spices
