There's plenty going on, but it just seems to clash every now and again.
    • Nose
Pretty shy and mostly herbal at first. A touch of basil but also some lemon peel. A tinge of red fruits in the background, supported by some orange liqueur. Even somewhat farmy and hoppy at times. A VERY slight burnished or peat note too. Interesting.
    • Taste
Much sweeter than expected on arrival (honey and redcurrant syrup), but also quite aggressive and spicy, and even a touch of sulphur from the wine cask. Water is almost obligatory. It really seems slightly peaty at times, but I haven't seen it mentioned in any other tasting notes.
    • Finish
Medium and somewhat dry. A touch of green grapes.

  2. ffmdino did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

the malt is solid but simple
I would have expected more influence on tap
    is too musty
not a typical Arran malt for me
    • Nose
starts fresh, sweetness becomes more, lightly malt becomes more, then musty wood, slightly maritime, tequila?, green herbs increase, vanilla comes
      in 1920: musty
with water: oak, shortbread, light toffee
    • Taste
full and strong on the palate, almost oily
dark caramel, strong oak, dark, green herbs, slightly soapy notes, so rum notes, spicy
with water: soft, red wine notes, light cardboard
    • Finish
      medium to long
light oak, strong oak, slightly chemical note, tart, spicy, minimal smoke
with water: more of the chemical note

Young and quickly finished, yet quite a reasonable dram.
I like it as a daily dram which is a bit different from the others.
    • Nose
      87 87
Citrus, some sweet and sour notes, but also a hint like Pulteney can have, a little sea breeze. The wine influence is in the background.
      With water: not much changed
    • Taste
      86 86
Neat it is hard to take. But there is a lot of sweet and sour here. Although there is a hardy note in here and the wine influence is more clearly.
With water more of an sour arrival and a little bitter development.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium length. Quite fresh actually. Freshness with some ripe white grapes and some wood. Hint of vanilla and cream when fading away.
With water: A little more sour, but in a good way

A typical Arran on the nose. Red wine maturation is rather reserved and not dominant.
    • Nose
Pleasant citrus freshness. Maritime breeze with some salt. Spicy oak appears behind it. The expected dark-fruity aromas of the wine barrels can only be seen on the nose.
    • Taste
Confirms the nose. But now chocolate. And the dark grapes are now more evident here.
    • Finish
Gets dry and leaves a fine fur on the tongue.

Unfortunately, can hardly convince. Much too alcoholic and dry. The red wine barrel unfortunately only appears somehow negatively. Too bad. With water, it gets a little better and significantly sweeter. But all in all not very convincing.
    • Nose
      82 82
Very alcohol-heavy with a clear sting in the nose.
You hardly notice anything from the wine barrel. Dark honey notes, a slight grape-like sweetness.
    • Taste
      83 83
Here you notice the wine barrel more. Reminiscent of must or a fresh grape harvest.
Lemon, milk chocolate and some honey. The character of the distillery also appears somewhat.
    • Finish
      73 73
Extremely dry, almost bitter. Oak also appears.

I would never have blinded a wine barrel here. This agave note is very unusual, and makes the whisky, with a lot of caramel / vanilla sweetness and lemon, very exciting.
    • Nose
Starts with a very nice, sweet mix of vanilla and creamy sweets. Lemon, and a green, fresh note that makes me think of good, ripened tequila. A few exotic fruits are added, kaki and kiwi. A herbaceous / green oak note carries everything.
    • Taste
Strong start, silky mouthfeel. Sweet, approach, with lots of lemon and kiwi, plus vanilla and caramel. The oak is pleasant in the background.
    • Finish
Medium length. Suddenly this agave note, which also lasts a long time. A lot of pleasant oak, a little nougat.
