Whisky Reviews for Octomore Oc6 ElD

10 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 88.59 points

  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

    I like this one more than I usually like Octomore, since the farm and horse dung smells are more in the background. I can't quite understand the low Whiskyfun score (75 pts.) for this, since I don't really find anything here that would be worse than what I usually find in Octos.
    • Nose
      Varnish, herbs, and a strong, mossy peat smell. Smoked fish, and a hint of farm yards. Some putty and herbal tinctures. Sadly, water brings out not only a huge peatiness, but also the dreaded farm.
    • Taste
      I like the oiliness and those hints of lemon, but otherwise it is a bit bland, even though that might be a silly word to use since there's crazy amounts of peat. Some herbal tincture notes again.
    • Finish
      Long, on tar candy and a hint of lemon. Monotone.

  2. GlenSikkes did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Notes by producer;
    This young Octomore was distilled in 2011 and aged in ex-bourbon barrels for more than eight years. As expected, it’s packed with pungent smoke, but also offers a wealth of citrus fruit and toasted grain flavours. 870 bottles produced in total.

    Cask details;
    2011 distillate aged in ex-bourbon barrels.

    Tating Notes;

    Burnt matches and iodine softened by lemon and orange peel, tinned fruit and maraschino cherries. Sumptuous melted caramel and ginger emerge after adding a drop of water.

    The chewy texture instantly erupts with hot peat and astringent smoke, before opening up into sea salt and cracked black pepper. Past the spice, there’s a generous helping of grapefruit marmalade spread on toasted rye bread.

    Dry finish with more citrus fruit, malted barley, tarragon and green tomatoes.

    Thick peat and marshy, it is a power, humidity, mold, mangrove, moist tropical scents, vanilla and lime, embellished with a light cherry. Iodine and orange jam. Hint of ginger. On the palate, some cereals, wheat, barley, millet, but it remains very mushy, and vanilla sets in, in the middle of peppery spices. Satisfying finish, long enough to be mentioned, earthy, charcoal, but also cola and wheat germ. Limestone rock.
