I am an absolute Callisto fan. But the VIII was a disappointment. Especially after the two predecessors. I expected more from the 11 year old. But he can't get to the VI and VII.
    • Nose

Very dominant smoke notes. A pleasant dry sherry note with not quite as much fruit and raisin aromas. This may indeed be something.
    • Taste
      81 81
Oh, what's that ??? Pure alcohol. Then again alcohol at the border to the booze. The slight subtle note of a dry sherry in the background.

      Total disappointment
    • Finish
      78 78
There was nothing. There is nothing. Nothing is coming.

Maybe a slight caramel-liquorice note at the end of the relatively short finish.

      The worst Callisto so far.

    An REVELATION!
    • Nose
Sweet and mild. Port in the nose.
    • Taste
Very well! Port and whisky. In the end smoke. Nice dryness. 4th of July in Arkansas.
Rauch very nicely embedded in the port notes. Distillery character of Caol Ila hardly noticeable.
    • Finish
Warming, sweet and smoky! Medium to long.

  3. PatSch23_12 scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Like my previous speaker absolute fan of the Callisto series, so far no runaways down - even this in my opinion not. Much more mature than the port predecessors, absolutely not boring
    • Nose
the three or five years more compared to the pre-faucet bottlings from the Port keg are clearly noticeable here. The smoke is far from superficial, it seems a bit more set. At first clear Kirschnektar and Spearmint, the Alko-hol as always wonderfully involved. The smoke is subliminal, but has the same earthy character as the sister barrels
    • Taste
clear alcohol notes literally squeeze the malt into the tongue and seal the whole thing with cooling smoke. Sweet-sour berries and cherries from the nose, paired with grilled and smoked fish
    • Finish
The fruits are long lasting, dry and mineral-brittle

Tasty whisky where the port influences nicely come together with the caol ila peat smoke. Something sharp in the alcohol and the finish is less
    • Nose
      88 88
Remarkably relatively little peat smoke for a caol ila. Influences of the port vessel. Dry, bitter, fruity. Orange peel.
    • Taste
      90 90
Powerful, full, rich, port. Nicely balanced, but spicy. Wow. Nice combination of peat smoke and port influences. Blueberries, dried fruits, cinnamon. I like!
    • Finish
      86 86
Finish linger. Wrange, dry, and slightly sour notes. At the back of the finish also salty and fishy.
