Smooth, soft whisky with a good enough balance, but very diluted. In my opinion, he lacks density. Why 40% ?! Why not 46%, but even better 50% ?!
    • Nose
Bright, filled with noble shades of old skin, fresh pastries, vanilla, white grapes and custard. Very well!
    • Taste
Dry, malt, with citrus acidity and delicate tannins.
    • Finish
Medium in duration, tender but watery, with echoes of spices, corn bread and lemon, with a pleasant aftertaste of “junk” and oak.

Tasted blindly, it was actually quite delicious. But the press sign is incomprehensible to me. The abv just turned out a little too flat. Therefore completely failed in the PLV.

Full, deep, volatile. Aromas very similar to white wine. Lots of fresh, slightly sour fruit from the orchard. Green apples. Some floral notes. Flowers flashed. The second time, more ripe fruit. White grapes.
    • Taste
      88 88
Fresh fruit. The fruit of the orchard. Apples. Some spices. Pretty full, deep.
    • Finish
      88 88
Fruit, fresh fruit. Green apples. Long finish.

    A 23yo Glenfiddich on free-pour? Sounds good.

N: Finished in French oak, I find it Caperdonich-like in part, albeit more citrus-y/cleaner,.. a little creamy.

T&F: Same again. Remarkably clean, so very balanced and consistent,… uninterrupted form – ‘smooth’ of course, as if to be deliberately indifferent.

C: Much like Glenmorangie, does Glenfiddich get better with age, or just slightly different? I think this Grand Cru is rather good, though it doesn’t inspire me enough to pay £10 to try the 26yo. The glaring omission here is the minimum bottling strength.

All well and good. However, it’s strikingly evident at this year’s show, that whilst the majority of producers are now on board with 46%/non-chill filtering/no added colour as standard – including a small number of [Diageo’s] Johnnie Walker expressions – Glenfiddich is keeping it ‘traditional’. When you think of how far the industry has come in the last few years in this respect, surrounded by the influx of new distilleries following the ‘craft’ model, Glenfiddich appears to have stuck.

Very honored to have got to try this. Pours a clear, darker gold. Scent is very fine, rather closed. Apple. Malty. not at all that boozy. Taste is full, very fine. White grapes. not robust at all - only refinement. Tad doughy. lovely. I actually like it just a tad more than the grande couronne that's even more expensive. Actually, this might be one of the best whisky's I've tried so far. I'm just not ready to pay the premium price for this just yet. Who knows, in time...

H2H of 12,15,18 & 23 year OB Glenfiddich and being honest I was shocked at the results.
Like many people your first introduction to single malts was Glenmorangie 10, Glenlivet 12, Highland Park 12 or Glenfiddich 12.

I used to like Glenfiddich, the 12 was decent and I used to enjoy the 15 Solera and I remember the 18 was pushing the boat out for a treat,i used to sit in the back garden drinking
the 18, I thought it was a quality dram.

Now after trying the latest 2021 offerings i am a little shocked at how bad they are.

    12 year 73 points
    15 year 77 points
    18 year 71 points
    23 year 71 points

My MOTR score is 75 points for drinkable but uninteresting whisky, only the 15 year managed to get over my MOTR score.
The palate is thin on all of these, little balance, bitter palates and not much in the way of enjoyment, what has happened to Glenfiddich, this tasting was a real eye opener.

i am currently drinking this blend which proudly displays the Glenfiddich crest on the neck label

The old Stand Fast is so much better that it is embarrassing.
The 23 year for the price is the quality on offer is a joke.

Hints of pepper, sweet smoke and possibly faint peat but no really sure about that one?
Sweet sherry, Parma violet, and a slightly grassy note.
    • Taste

The palate is thin and bitter, there is some pepper maybe a little finger, certainly plenty of spice but there is no enjoyment to be had here.

Finish falls off, this would benefit from a higher ABV

    • Taste
Grapefruit, Yuzu, white wine, baguette, line seed oil

rather short and flat, cookie dough, orange zest

Very sweet, caressing, subtle touch of citrus, appetizing.
On the palate, a touch of cereal, surprising at this age, made in mature notes. Very wise and slightly vinous. Smooth, but without that being a reproach. Noticeable reduction, but never watery. Creamy and delicate.
    Light, subtle and classy finish.

    Enthusiasm 4/5
