Wonderful sherry bouquet. At the beginning there is a malty, grainy moment. This is where the pulp character of Old Pulteney shines through. The first nose is easily digestible and at the same time aromatically dense. Sherry doesn't kill you. Very complex, very pleasant. Slightly oak-smoky, sweet, nutty, grassy-herbaceous. If you lower your nose deeper into the glass, dark and fruity. All flavors are closely interwoven, very round, so nothing stands out. No sulfur perceptible. Alcohol is also very well integrated. Over time, the whisky becomes even softer and more elegant, pafumier. Vanilla and caramel appear. The spicy smokiness also becomes sweeter.
The aromas continue in the mouth. Wood is more noticeable. Still no bitterness.
Even sweeter with water. Rich and spicy oak smoke surprises on the palate. Wow, where does it come from - very tasty. And the smoke is already through. Sherry ends pleasantly.
What is impressive about this "gentle" dram is this pleasant refill sherry character and its balance. A whisky for a relaxed and cozy evening.

Unlike the TWE Single-Cask (ID: 110534), this is not a "crass sherry burner" with full sweetness; this is a dense refill sherry intensive with pronounced herb and nut notes. The sherry, plum and raisin flavors make the fine complement. With a powerful 56.5% dense and drinkable and easy to recognize as a "spicy Highlander".

After further tests, the following conclusion emerges: A stranges part - "the 12 Bunna on testosterone", so to speak. Straight refill barrel. Finely ripened, intense, on the oaky side with light oak smoke. I miss something the "typical Pulteneyhaft", the rest is very good - but not inspiring for me. Whining at a high level.

_With some water_ the Pulteney gets smokey on the first try in the nose. The sherry aromas and the fruit sweetness are also increasing. In the mouth it becomes noticeably sweeter, the finish remains medium to long; a fine variant. In the second test with water, the malt becomes even smoother, the fruit only wakes up over time. Herbs, salt spray. On the palate immediately sweeter, more fruity. Now rather long finish; good variant! With a little water for me with 91 points (92-91-91) one point better than without.

First nutty, slightly grassy aroma, then goes very dry-spicy. Delicate menthol freshness, very pleasant. Over time, the sherynots become stronger. For further samples, the smokiness becomes more intense; but no peat smoke, but oak smoke. Sherry and dark fruits then come to the fore, Nussigkeit. A strange as well as interesting mixture.
    • Taste
      90 90
For the first samples, the sherry flavors were just as full, the dark fruits as well. Oak, herbs; and again Nussigkeit and a few raisins. A very nice, dense aroma. Pleasant freshness, 56.5% are well integrated. Oak and caramel, slightly smoked. The most recent summary: A sherry refill, finely prepared. The oak becomes more dominant. Spicy; However, the "maritime Pulteney character" is barely noticeable.
    • Finish
      90 90
Intense and medium-long, refill sherry and spice dominate the full finish. Oak.

A complex dram that rewards time in the glass and a few drops of water. The nose presents an array of dried fruits, with figs easily identifiable, coconut, and very high quality dark chocolate. The nose carries through in the palate but anchored with a strong dose of baking spice, cinnamon, cloves, and a little nutmeg. As it opens in the glass the chocolate fades just a little and the fruits and spice become more dominant. A fantastic whisky that I suspect will be even better after being open a couple of months.
