  1. GlenSikkes did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Notes by producer;
    Creamy and generous, but with a noticeable kick on the palate, this coastal whisky combines ripe tropical fruits with more serious flavours of tar and brine. 986 bottles have been produced from three barrels of 2007 distillate.

    Tasting Notes;

    Cask details;
    Vatting of three ex-bourbon barrels.

    Nose
    Caramel-coated flapjacks and stewed apples with vanilla sugar form a sweet contrast to astringent, slightly medicinal, smoke.

    Palate
    Full-bodied with ripe mango, pineapple and grilled peaches. There’s a salty, coastal edge to the fruit flavours, followed by dry barley husks, coal tar and gravel.

    Finish
    Lengthy notes of dry peat, white pepper and olive oil, sweetened with honey.

      Classic Laga coastal iodine smoke, red caramel apple, hint of vanilla

      Phwoaarr a tarry exotic fruit medley - ripe mango and pineapple, succulent juicy peaches, tarry ropes and that salty brine!!
    • Finish
      88 88
      Looooong peaty finish, some honey and cracked white pepper

      A certain sweetness remains. Also tar and salt

    Elements of Islay LG10, 57.4%. Pale yellow. Aroma is banana fritters in a big way. Very banana. Quite fun really but not what I hoped for. Minimal smoke. Taste is salty and oily peat. Doesn't have the punch of 57%. Very drinkable at that abv. Softly woody. Some faint banana notes but very faint. The peat is soft yet builds. Blind I would have this down as a good peated Speyside but it doesn't have typical Lagavulin character. Nice though. Over time you start to get some oily rag a la Laphroaig. Air really opens it up nicely. 3.6/86

    I really liked how it changed from the nose to the finish. It’s unusual in my experience for a flavor like smoke to be present on the ends and mostly absent in the middle – I typically find that a flavor comes in and remains or drops and stays out.
    • Nose
      88 88
      Bright fruit and smoke, musty, some sea-like quality not quite like brine.
    • Taste
      84 84
      Tropical fruit, peppery burn. There’s a tiny bit of smoky flavor, but not much. Salt.
    • Finish
      84 84
      Long. Brine, tarry smoke.

    A very good bottling, but sadly the living wood/freshness thing I usually find in Lagavulin 12yo releases is missing here.
    • Nose
      The smoke feels greasier and dirtier than is usual in young Laga, so we get that usual soft but deep Laga peatiness, but no lemons, or freshly cut branches, or wood in rain in the forest. I like the style, but it certainly is a bit one note.
    • Taste
      Curiously soft body for >50%. Lots of soot, and some sweet lemon. Water makes it harsher, and I think I prefer it neat. Oily peat, tar, peat, tar... you get it. It's good, but there's not much complexity.
    • Finish
      Sooty peat, and lemons.
