Whisky Reviews for Rosebank 21-year-old SMS

- Herbal, fragrant, some stone fruits and red fruits, apple pear, reminded me of the zenith cs bottlings, excellent.
As I understand it, some years ago the remaining official Rosebank stocks [15 casks], were vatted/stored into inert containers. Released annually under the ‘Roses Edition’ moniker on Valentine’s Day, each subsequent edition [seven in all], offers subtle differences in character, dependent on marriage time – much like the Thomas H Handy annual releases for example. This is the 4th, 2019 release:
N: Fruit, beer, yeast. Distillate-forward yet also decidedly oak-stewed.
T: Wine > beer, fizzy, yeasty.
F: Curiously murky.
C: It’s a good Rosebank is all one needs to know, but don’t go spending over £4000 for a bottle.
- I have to say I found this particular Rosebank a big let down, I suppose you could certainly say it was in the lowland style of fruit, fizz, sherbet, slightly grassy and above all it was light in body and mouthfeel but the cask integration was not there , this was an inactive cask(s) and tasted more like a 6-8 year whisky, little balance on show.
I did not recognise this as Rosebank, not a very substantial whisky and far too expensive for the quality on offer.
What happened here, shame
The best I can award it is a MOTR 73 points, a forgettable whisky, more disgrace than Grace actually, sorry could not help myself on that one, apologies.
I had 2 goes at this, my brother also thought the same thing, perhaps my expectations were far too high and I am sure some with love the ,lemon fizz notes (lemon puff biscuits), this was just not for me.
- Best rosebank of the series of four (roses) yet. Absolutely fantastic whisky.
Synthetic sugar, a bit artificial and chemical, dried flowers, simple, similar to a 20+ Speyside whisky.
Intense, punchy and juicy, citrusy, very sweet, a tad simple.
Short, icing sugar.
Malty, concentrated lemon cream, ripe apples, rich lavenda and hints of jasmine. Herbal. 89
Cinnamom mushrooms textures, grapefruit honey, mints, citrus peel. Ginger spices, hints of black pepper. With water, more citrus bitterness, more peppery spices. liqorice, woody tannin. 89
Mints, citrus peels, orange juice, hints of chocolates, with water, there’s more tannin and peppery spices. 90
- Best of the series so far
