This one needs definitely some air to open up, starts first quite dusty, leafy and grassy but then shows nice sherry notes, can't catch up on the palate and in the finish
    • Nose
      90 90
Very nutty, walnuts and almonds, dusty, old wooden cabinet, old books, little leafy, hints of green vegetables, spices, green pepper, hints of leather, toffee, chocolate - pretty good
    • Taste
      88 88
Oily, subtle sweetness, little toffee, spices, dusty, woody, more walnuts and almonds, little unripe hazelnuts, little herbal
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium long, warm, spicy, zesty, little bitter, hints of soapy notes

Not too sure how to rate this one, green fruits, herbs, white pepper, cardboard, funky and green, I am really divided, it’s not bad just odd

One of the really funky Ben Nevis, what a personality! Very herbal, reminds me of some Highland Parks distilled in the 50s.
    • Nose
A damp cloth, rotten vegetables, boiled herb medicine, paper water, hints of bitter tastes, just so many off notes.
    • Taste
Basically the nose suggested, a damp cloth you used to clean the kitchen, Chinese herb medicine, licorice, Sichuan pepper.
    • Finish
Long, damp cloth, herb medicine, dried hawthorn.

I was really impressed with this one it is a spicy sherry that is more peaty than I was expecting but a really juicy mouth watering bottling and its a swimmer taking water well. I was told this was about £550-£600 which by today's standards seems like a good buy.

    The back label states :-
This bottling of Ben Nevis single malt was originally bottled in 1998 for a customer in the US IN 750ml bottles.
This sale did not materialise and the bottles have lain forgotten in the warehouse at the distillery.
This stock has recently been rediscovered and we decided to re-bottle it into our own 700ml bottles and release this as part of our `Forgotten Bottlings` series for your enjoyment.

Strange how you can loose whisky but hey, its a gem so good news I suppose. :)
