Wonderfully gentle and balanced, a perfect summer evening dram. Personally, I don't think I would pay upwards of £300 for it but the quality is definitely there for anyone who wants to splurge on a well aged single malt.
    • Nose
It is both gentle but extremely fruity up front on the nose. Layers of tropical mangoes, tinned pineapples, starfruit and ripe peaches come through. There is a delicate cereal malt note, quite fresh and sweet. The age comes through as dusty bookshelves or old books in a dunnage warehouse. The abv hits the nose just perfectly, no burn but wonderfully full bodied. The bourbon casks have left a wonderful honeyed sweetness, full of vanillins and caramel. The nose is where this shines the most I find and I could spend hours nosing a dram of this.
    • Taste
Again, the alcohol is very delicate on the palate, carrying that burst of tropical fruit flavour with it. I'm getting passion fruit now alongside the mangoes and pineapple. Again a balanced honeyed sweetness with vanilla. Now just a light touch of white pepper warmth with some nutmeg.
    • Finish
There's a long finish to this dram, it continues what the palate presented but develops into a less sweet, more fruity note. Slighty drying towards the end and those cereal notes return again.

One to leave in the mouth for a good long while, until it releases its tropical fruit punch trump card.

Tasted in direct comparison with Batch 3 (WID 158291).
    • Nose
      90 90
More refill-driven than Batch 3, so the creamy/waxy old-age aromas and the yeasty, floral distillery character come out more. With time, a faint woodsmoke / charred note emerges, you might even be forgiven for wondering whether there's a puff of smoke in here.

Freshly starched cotton flapping in a summer breeze, with lots of tiny floral accents and a lush honeyed foundation, backed up by a good dose of old oak.
    • Taste
      91 91
Mild and fruity at first, then a wave of oak spice and more acidic accents rise up.

The highlight is the last third of the flavor development, when the fruitiness turns tropical and even sweeter and merges with this oily, greasy, long-matured ex-bourbon malt flavor.
    • Finish
      90 90
Lush fruit and a fatty sweetness. Greasy, softly ashy, and moderately long, but I wish it were even longer. Turns tart eventually (grape skins, citrus rind).

Withdrawn nose, creme brûlée, some savory nutmeg, rich oak spice, sultanas.

Taste is big arrival, bright fresh fruits - kiwi, strawberry, and pear. Mint and sandalwood on the finish, but does not last as long as I’d like for a 30-year old.

C: It’s very good, but not quite as good as last year’s batch #1 [WLP88].
