In the nose it is pretty rich and promising, but as too often, it is watered down too much making the whisky too thin and pale. With at least some 46% Abv this would definately have scored much better.
    • Nose
      85 85
Fruity and sweet, citrus, orange, honey as well. Spicy, cinnamon and some tropical fruits. Later on a little floral.
    • Taste
      81 81
Soft and smooth, fruity, orange, honey. A tad pale and watery mouthfeel, thin.
    • Finish
      82 82
Now a little pepper comes in, still soft and smooth though. Sweet, honey and vanilla, a bit of tropical fruits remain. Middle long.

Wonderfully tuned! The port wine casks for post-aging give the already round ''Cragganmore'' additional depth and fruitiness. Really recommended. The silkiness of the mouthfeel gives way to a nice and lingering chocolaty dryness. Very delicate and flattering, but unfortunately only bottled at 40%.
    • Nose
An incredible grape fruitiness rises in the nose, heather, forest honey, malty, milk chocolate, dried apricots, in the background subtle smoke, walnuts, tangerines and blood oranges, hibiscus tea, complex and very round
    • Taste
Very silky and soft, cream, sweet juicy red grapes, honey, herbal candy, dark milk chocolate with caramelized walnuts and raisins, orange peel, the oak knocks
    • Finish
Medium length, slightly dry, smoked malt, a long developing dark milk chocolate note, liquorice, walnuts, marzipan, cocoa, hint of cloves

  4. Saftkenner scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

A typical Speysider in terms of aromas. The port wine finish is probably just a delicate addition and does not provide full and present fruit aromas.
A very nice and pleasant entry-level malt, which is certainly well suited to get people interested in malt whisky who want to get into it very easily. This malt will not overwhelm you.
However, 43% could have been quiet.
    • Nose
      84 84
Very pleasant, subtle with honey and flowers. The alcohol is well integrated. Very light oak, cherries and ripe pears.
    • Taste
      83 83
Slight tingling when starting despite the (only) 40%. A nice surprise that he also brings some strength.
Vanielle, beeswax, plums, cherries, linoleum, delicate oak spices.
    • Finish
      82 82
Short to medium-length finish. What remains is a delicate flowery oak spice with a little acacia honey.

Not bad, but a bit thin and not very influential the Port wood.
    • Nose
Floral. Waxy fruits, vanilla, caramel, spices.
    • Taste
Spicy oak, sweet fruits, peat, punch and tutty-frutty.
    • Finish
      Medium length, oaky, spicy.

"One of the more unusual of the Distillers Editions, Cragganmore is finished in Port pipes for extra sweetness and fruity depth."
