If there is such a thing as one of the friendliest, then it is the Jameson 18. No ifs, ors, or buts, one of my insider tips. This blend is so elegant and surprisingly complex that the insufficient alcohol strength is hardly significant. One of the highest quality blends I know.
    • Nose
Really appealing on the nose. Very intense and direct, it delivers sweet sherry notes with vanilla and ripe apples. A very complex nose if you have the time. Very tasty and stimulating aromas are in the room above the glass.
    • Taste
Silky, creamy appearance on the palate with all the fruits that the South German knows from home. In addition lemon cake with a portion of Bourbon vanilla. It is also very spicy, but more pleasant than the nose had said before. Ripe tropical fruits dipped in honey.
    • Finish
Medium to long but suddenly gone without an announcement. Also again very sweet but getting drier he ends with his head raised. He's one of the big ones in the blend business.

... a great, ripe, noble, complex and very good "Irish Blend" which was also available at very reasonable prices in 2016 - unfortunately too expensive now!
    • Nose
      soft, mild, very fruity, flowery, sherry, caramel, some oak;
    • Taste
      soft, silky start, nice vanilla, fruits (peaches, lemon), wood, tobacco, oak; ripe, aromatic, quite complex;
    • Finish
      quite long, soft with toffee and spice, oak in the aftertaste;

    - super Irish
    - in addition to the very good whiskey, also a very
    nice packaging
    - belongs to the affordable "Champions League" category
    from Ireland
    • Nose
you can smell the old age, noble, soft, very pleasant smell, a lot of sherry, toffee, a hint of oak
    • Taste
sweet grapes, delicately spicy, with caramel, clear sherry note, very nice and warm, elegant and soft on the palate, marzipan, very tasty
    • Finish
long, soft finish with oak, spice and caramel; persistent, harmonious warm medium-long aftertaste

    Appearance: Medium orange-gold, oily.

Nose: Apple, wood spices, hay, mint, dill, herbs, pickles, cherry, pear. A fascinatingly herbal nose.

Palate: Soft, light, herbal. Spring flowers. Very floral.

Finish: Soft and light, spicy and floral finish.

With Water: Did not have enough.

Overall: Probably 8 ml or so left in the bottle. This was a huge surprise, so different from the regular Jameson and quite reminiscent of a rye. Would like to try again from a fuller bottle to see if it’s different.

  9. Kaleva scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Interesting Irishman, very pleasant and with quite complex nose, which is really pleasant but has some sharp metallic notes. Probably grain component? The taste is also pleasant but quite monotone with apparent oakiness. The aftertaste is rather long and pleasant. And the last but not least: 3-6 more degrees ABV would be a definite plus.
    • Nose
Light, buttery (fudge), yellow apple, vanilla, sultanas, tropical fruits and honey notes, citrus peel, light oakiness, some metallic notes?
    • Taste
A bit sharp and punchy with moderate spiciness, slightly sweet, peach bubble gum, vanilla fudge, woody, tobacco and leather notes
    • Finish
Long, spicy, woody, walnut shells, leathery notes, light maltiness and bitterness

  10. Lorion scored this whisky 40 points Connoisseur

    What a flop. 40 points.
    • Nose
Sweet, burnt hair. Furniture chips. Some honey and citrus.
    • Taste
Sweet and fruity with lots of vanilla and wood. Something artificial.
    • Finish
      Medium long, sweetish.

Excellent whiskey if you want to try something different.
    • Nose
Soft vanilla sweet and fresh sour citrus. Green apple and marshmallow. Soft sherry notes with nuts. After opening completely, the nose gets even better when the sour notes are fading away and the apples are taking over. Deeper down there's a Little dry hay.
    • Taste
Very soft, smooth coming in with a lot of corn (reminds me of the bulleit rye) and a complex nutty taste. Oak and vanilla sweet with a tickle of oranges.
    • Finish
Good half long finish, malty - grain, vanilla sweet. Light oak and nuts. Not drying out too much.

A really nice, round 18's from Jameson, has some nice combinations that I did not have that often.
    • Nose
Very interesting flavors, fresh cocoa mixed with orange and grapefruit, vanilla sweets, fresh licorice, honey and malt, wax, somehow a little bit of nice rum, green apple
    • Taste
Here too, the beautiful mixture of some fruit, orange, grapefruit, even a little mango, vanilla, sweet malt, fresh cocoa and honey with thyme, green apple, a little pear and nettle, licorice
    • Finish
Sweet malt with apples, mango and melon, licorice, dry-fruity, medium-long

Somehow delicious - but at the same time too boring for a whole bottle
    • Nose
very sweet, creamy, oak cabinet wall, nuts, cocoa, wax, orange, lemon zest
    • Taste
soft, sweet, round, mild, very oily, citrus, orange oil with dark chocolate and some mint
    • Finish
spicy dry oak, wax with oranges, minty fresh cooling and warming at the same time, some resin

  17. Gloin scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

The smell is very soft and classic, it makes you want more. The taste and the finish can not quite fulfill the promise that the whiskey promised in the nose. Nevertheless, he likes me very well, a very classic, satisfying whiskey, as soft and gentle as the cliché says Irish whiskey.
    • Nose
Vanilla, sweet lemons, quince, some green apple, hay, including sherry notes, a little cherry, red jam, all tightly woven, expressive and appetizing
    • Taste
Very soft body and gentle onset, sweet oak notes with a delicate bitterness, apricot, apple peel, malt
    • Finish
warming and again sweet, tender oak notes, medium long

    Meringue & Marshmallow

So far I have only tried 4 Jameson and that is mostly because I am not very fond of it. It is a nice whiskey, but nothing more. Not special in my book. But when I was offered this bottle of 18 year old, my interest was piqued. The Jameson 18 Year Old Limited Reserve, bottled in 2009, will set you back between 80 and 100 EUR, depending on where you shop.

A sweet and fruity nose on kiwi, gooseberry, Granny Smith (just a tad), pear and peach. Loads of vanilly, but also some whipped egg white. Meringue en marshmallow.

It is soft and fresh on the palate, with a nice balance between sweet and sour. Mostly apples, pears and meringue return. Some wine gums. The second sip evolves towards citrus. Some violets kick in (the purple candy, not the flowers).

The finish is pleasantly long on wine gums and some vanilla. It leaves the mouth fairly dry.

A pleasant surprise on the nose, the palate and finish were more than okay. Probably the best Jameson I have tried so far. Thanks to The Green Man for the sample.

Interesting Irishman. Could be a single pot still. I have not found a grain.
    • Nose
Syrup sweet sherry aromas, red groats, behind withered bouquet of flowers, sweet grappa association, dry cinnamon
    • Taste
Very strong cereal on the tongue, then spices and herbs, to the end fermented tropical fruits
    • Finish
Spicy, yet sweet with well-integrated oak, dryness and spicy tongue coating remains, walnut is still long in the mouth

  22. ScottFrench scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A nice whiskey but not complex for a penny. Perfect for apero
    • Nose
Very expressive with notes of wood, peaches, plums, vanilla, and wax and honey.
    • Taste
Sweet and delicate, rather monolithic on the fruit
    • Finish
      Short.

  24. Archer scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A varied blend, which shows his 18-year maturity. From the nose, it could have been a pure pot still. With a higher alcohol strength, this could be a real bang.
    • Nose
Very spicy on the first contact with the nose, almost like a single pot still. Very intense, very complex. Vanilla sugar-dusted ripe apricots and peaches. Sherry flavors and oak. Still dried plums out back.
    • Taste
Creamy start with a good dose of Bourbon vanilla. Slightly spicy, but not as strong as the nose suggests. Overripe tropical fruits, honey. Slightly oily. Oak comes to the end.
    • Finish
Medium long with nice fruity notes, where it finally breaks away quite quickly.

Liquid candy. Pretty amazing stuff that defines complexity and elegance.

    (Rating interval 87-91)
    • Nose
Vanilla sugar and marshmallows immediately on the nose. It is followed by goose berries, yellow kiwi fruit, granny smith apples and meringue.
    • Taste
Clean and fresh arrival with slightly mild and sour complex fruit. The fruit becomes sweeter in the development, from green to red apples, from hard to soft pears, almost canned pears and again meringue with sweet lemon pie.
    • Finish
The finish is long with vanilla sponge cake, stewed fruit, plums and basetts fruitgums. It's really dry on the finish as well especially on the back of the tongue.

Nose varnish, wood, turpentine, alcohol. Honey mouth, flowers, wood and varnish. Average finish in which the wood is well integrated. Nice but I definitely do not stick with the polish side of the Irish.

    purchased sample
    • Nose
Higher pitch and more floral than the small pot reserve. The vanilla is
rather more prominent here, and in a very buttery rich whipped
cream/airy ice cream way. The base aroma is honey on a cool fruit salad.
Pear, peach, and other fruits with white meat. Pinch of cinnamon and
      anise, and very refreshing.
    • Taste
Oooh, citrusy and spicy! This is going somewhere new and exciting. I
really like how this kicks out. Pepper and cinnamon on the fruit
simmering in honey, vanilla, and cloves. Oils from pressed violets (it
does taste 'purple,' which, Homer Simpson argues, IS a fruit.) Creamy.
Fruit pie a la mode with almonds.
    • Finish
Not the strongest or longest, but very heavy on the same general
flavors as the small pot reserve. There's more wood, spice, and honey in
thi sone. Very tasty, though I probably prefer the SPR. Both, though,
are clearly cut from the same cloth. I half think that this could be a
bit richer, but I don't think that the ABV is the issue. Who am I
kidding? This is lots of fun! I'm looking forward to trying a Vintage
Reserve at some point. This one settles in nicely

I got quite a lot of juicy-fruit chewing gum. Pot still influence is not as noticeable, but a lot of bourbon influences in nose and taste.

    • Nose
Wheat, vanilla, runny honey and cinnamon
    • Taste
Minerally (tingling like sparkling water), vanilla, spice and steamed pears
    • Finish
