Whisky Reviews for Hibiki 17-year-old

- Lovely blend, but not worth the ridiculous price tag.
- Bought around 2015 for about $250, which today seems to be a bargain. Also the first bottle opened after returning from several years in Belgium. Fantastic blend, especially for that previous time period. Creamy custard on the nose with vanilla and baking spices. Some complexity on the palate. Cinnamon, stewed banana, creme brûlée. Medium finish of dry lingering spices. Still expensive at the time of purchase, but glad I took the opportunity to get it, especially with the current prices. Would rate a point or two higher if it were closer to the original price. It’s been a good after-sushi-dinner dram.
- 15 ml / ¥500 @ Kyoto Isetan.
Appearance: Medium gold.
Nose: Big wood spice from mizunara, oak, sugar, vanilla.
Palate: Oak, wood spices from mizunara, dried apricot, honey, pineapple.
Finish: Spicy, fruity, pineapple.
With Water: Not necessary. Softer and more pineapple.
Overall: Lovely wood spices and honey in this one. A real show case for the aged mizunara casks. Oak and incense. Aged, woody and austere. I wish they still made it.
