what's good about this bottle is: it dosent's surprice you at the first time, but after you traveled around the whisky world, tasted hundreds and hundreds of bottles, you come back to lagavulin 16, and you 'll never get tired of it.
Silk, smmoth, seasalt, sweet vanillla, smoked bacon, milk, and on and on...
if I had to stick to one bottle for the rest of my life, this is the one.

Great, complex, and balanced smoky whisky
    • Nose
Meaty and oaky smoke mixed with iodine, salt, and citrus notes. Become more fruity citrus after the first sip
    • Taste
Sweet fruity meaty smoke, slight black pepper spice, and brine
    • Finish
Long, sweet smoky oak becomes dry and ashy smoke

Despite its stellar reputation I have never personally warmed to Lagavulin 16. I thought I should give this benchmark of whiskydom another try and yet again I find it enjoyable enough but I'd rather get my Islay/peat fix somewhere else. The seaweed is a little strong and out of balance on both the nose and palate, this is because it is no Nori, rather more like something you would find washed up on a beach. Tarry smoke, light fruits, gentle pepper. It is good and you cannot help but appreciate that it is still so affordable for a 16 year old Islay.

delicious malt, but I find the 16 year old DE a bit better. Still complex and recommendable
    • Nose
      87 87
a lot of smoke, campfire, some smoked ham, fruits, quickly changing to maritime notes with seaweed, slightly sweet, smell of the ocean. Later getting a little weaker
    • Taste
      89 89
Smoke and sweetness here too, spicy, a bit malty, here too maritime notes, oak comes out a little, becoming salty, a little ash taste
    • Finish
      87 87
Smoky sweet, a bit malty nutty, spicy with oak, very slightly salty. Medium length.
