    Dirty nose: Farm odor,peat smoke,sweet sherry,red fruits
Peat smoke, briny, sweet sherry, dark berries, leather, forest floor and an overwhelming chilli kick
Excellent whisky. Benromach delivers again! If Campbeltown is your favorite whisky region ,this malt is an excellent alternative! I think it is even better than some of the last Springbank CS batches...

    1566) Benromach, 2009/2019, Cask Strength, Batch 1
There are 5 different Cask Strength Batch 1 on the web, different vintages and some with age statement, sounds like a mess.
    • Nose
N- Sweet sherry with lightness for the aroma to flow. Farm-y, then the usual suspects of vanilla, citrus and lemon come fore. Feint notes of fruit gum then spicy notes of wood. Surprisingly swift despite the high strength. (87/21)
    • Taste
P- Dark chocolate coated with espresso bean (yes, got such thing!). Tannin beany with oak-y nutmeg and phenol. Feel the grassiness, basil and raisin. A 58.8% that doesn't feel like 58.8%, good or bad, fairly subjective. (86/20)
    • Finish
F- Medium long, cardboard, lingering mints for freshness, reminded me of a soft-pack menthol Matterhorn, cooling but hollow. (86/20)

      B/B- 86/20

Now in the glass another, meanwhile old bottling of a Benromach. The whisky from 2009 was bottled about ten years old at cask strength with 58.8% vol. This whisky also shows itself in the glass in dark gold and with a medium viscosity.
To say it right away: Wow! This is really big cinema and also a lot of great whisky for the called up price. I am very stunned.

Also fruity, smoky and juicy the first time you smell in, but a bit more harmonious than Batch 2. The second contact reveals a fine, almost salty marine smoke, notes of lemon, apricot, baked banana, ripe pineapple and warm biscuits. Again a hint of salmiak lozenges and a vibrant herbal note.
The alcohol doesn't bother here either and is very well integrated. Compared to the bottling from 2008, I also perceive a stronger smoke note. The anticipation grows again!
    • Taste
      90 90
The fruity-smoky character of the whisky continues on the palate, but Batch 1 is a bit more harmonious. I add water again and the smoke becomes soft and subdued again, almost like incense. Again pleasant sherry sweetness, ripe apricots and peaches, plus papaya and fried pineapple. The mint is gentler, but also gives the dram freshness, after which bananas and cocoa powder and milk chocolate hit the palate immediately. I like it again with a little water and recommend playing with concentration again.
    • Finish
      89 89
In the finish, I see the Benromach medium to long, even after adding water. At first a pleasant freshness before the fruity side sets in, this time more with orange and guava. Again a slightly maritime note, then slowly very fine and fruity sweetness, ripe apricots, fried bananas and caramelized pineapple. Delicate!
