This was the 5th dram in a line-up of 6 Archives whiskies.

Upfront, we had been advised to put this Laddie as last dram in the line-up; even after the port Charlotte (which we in the end did not do). When poured in the glass we immediately knew why.

Very powerful flavors rise up from the glass. Earthy, musty and dusty sherry-notes; but for sure no sherry bomb. This is a beast.

And a beast it is. But a dirty good one. Very powerful and strong. This requires water. Even with water the structure remains thick and oily. Sherry flavors, spices, tropical fruit, chocolate; it is all there.
    • Finish
      89 89
Very long finish. Dry and oily.

Part of an 6 sample Archives tasting I did with friends. Before this we had a port Charlotte. It seemed a little strange to us, placing a peated whisky right in front of an unpeated whisky, but in this case it worked out very well.
    • Nose
Yes! This is offering a lot of what you are hoping for when tasting a Laddie aged on an ex sherry cask. That deep, dirty, farmy smell is there immediately. Strong nose with loads of red and orange fruits wrapped in leather. Very full flavored and a nice fresh hint as well like in anise and dried basil. With time this whisky keeps developing inside the glass. It’s a lively and exciting whisky. Very mature.
    • Taste
Thick and fatty palate. A dram to swirl and hold inside the mouth for a while. Just lovely how good the balance is. Syrupy red fruits, again anise, hazenut chocolate and Arabic spices. A lovely intense palate! It can handle some water get rid of the alcoholic influence, but not to much, it will spoil the nose.
    • Finish
Long lasting finish. Giving strawberry lemonade, leather, hazelnuts, mocha and loads of mild spices. It’s lingering on and never gets boring. A truly lovely dram this is!

What a part! Definitely nothing that you just drink on the side, you need full attention, but if you feel like a dirty, intense blow in the face, then this is just the thing ;-)
He really likes it after a few more sips. Exciting whisky!
    • Nose
Laddie in the nose, caramel with red fruits, sweet, creamy, light fresh tart notes with the fruits, like a raspberry caramel candy, with old leather, some tobacco, the oak has left its impression, also darker fruits, espresso, dark chocolate on the edge to smell everything pleasantly and no trace of alcohol
    • Taste
oily and fat, wow, intense, extreme red fruit, acidic, very vinous, caramel, a lot of sulfur, dirty, pure laddie, raspberry, also rather lighter red fruit, he dances on the tip of my tongue, tingling, rather dry and sour than sweet , I never had such a start, but as extreme as it is, I like that too
    • Finish
roasted nuts, here again raspberries, still light acidity, cherry juice, some salt on the tip of the tongue, medium length

Deep, dark sherry.. lots of dark chocolates, with an earthy, maritime, peaty core. Somewhat juicy and minty.
    • Taste
      89 89
Very typical Port Charlotte sherry... Again, earthy, chocolatey peat! It's not very complex at all but damn this is done well, if you know what I mean.
    • Finish
      88 88
It's got that peaty Port Charlotte finish...

Really great sherry whisky with a "dirty" nose, which for its age appears dynamically fruity on the tongue without appearing young. The smoke is relatively low. I did not find the sulfur notes disturbing. The oak is well integrated and does not kill him. Great barrel and for the price of 150, - € it would have been really good.
    • Nose
Musty, musty, old closet, barn, sulfur, polish, carnation. The smoke has to fight the sherry barrel.
    • Taste
Now the smoke is coming more clearly. Tingles at the tip of the tongue, the oak gives it something powerful on the tongue, sweet & sour, pepper, strawberry.
    • Finish
Constant finish without being too oak-heavy. Pipe tobacco remains and a pleasant sweetness.

    Unfortunately not mine.
In the nose there is a cow barn, some sherry and nuts, then in the mouth dark chocolate and cocoa, unfortunately permanently covered with matches

Woody sherry, red fruits and honeysuckle. Cherry, redcurrant, plums, and winey reflections. At the same time, a gentle sea breeze. Raspberry, blackberry, cranberry. It's something, this sherry. Tannins, blood orange. A touch of ether, a medicinal and salty touch. Pomegranate syrup. Wet rock, some grains and honey. Floral fragrances, daisy, hyacinth. After a long time, the balance is made between the very tasty sherry and this mineral, salty, medicinal iodine side. On the palate, a delight of blackcurrant juice, it is syrupy at first, then it dries up, black radish, candied ginger. The spices rise, pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, bay leaf. Cocoa, earth, Cahors wine. A bitter touch. Fairly long finish, once again heavy with ripe, heady fruit. Pumpkin, butternut, dried mango. I'm very impressed. Nutty at the end.

    Same line-up as Erik1908 and Cask1988.
An heavy, odd but very good Laddie this is!
    Be carefull with water!
    • Nose
      90 90
A burst in the nose. An odd and dirty nose. Earthy, mineral, sherry notes, hint of sulphur. Very heavy but intruding and quite good actually.
Some leather and wood wax in the background.
With water this one opens up more.
    • Taste
      90 90
Very fruity, load of red fruits. Like in a candyshop, very sweet.
It has a very oily and full body, which I highly appreciate. There is a load of sherry, strawberry, leather and old colonial bookshelves.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long length. This is the weakest part of the whisky. Although still very good.
There is the dirty sherry influence, some wood and a little dry off note. Yet very good.
