Nice nose, light spring fruit. Apples and nectar. Very easy. The palate shows more grains and spices.

Especially the nose is very fresh and fruity, and vanilla sweetness. In the finish some bitterness, but overall a very good and pleasant whisky.

    Timid

It had been way too long since I last tried a Rosebank. The news that Ian MacLeod’s plans to reopen Rosebank have been approved, has put this legendary Lowlander back on my radar. Happy dance. This is only the 15th Rosebank I try. It was bottled by the Dutch Van Wees – in their The Ultimate series – and has been sitting on the bottle for more than 10 years. Dusted off the bottle and poured me a dram.

The nose is fresh as spring with vanilla, apricots, a bouquet of flowers and lime, with a surprising note of quinine and candle wax. Some rose water and hessian, freshly cut grass, white fruit, more vanilla and a drop of flowery honey. In all honesty very fresh, but also very light and far from complex.

The body is too light to impress. Almost watery in fact. Pity. The taste is rather flat as well. Timid. Or delicate, depending on your mood, I suppose. Anyway: citrus (grapefruit in the lead) followed by quinine and dried grass. Hint of marzipan. Just a sprinkling of pepper.

Medium long finish on hay and white chocolate. Surprisingly spicy on pepper and ginger with a bitter note at the death.

Very approachable, summery, light Rosebank. Nothing wrong with it, but no champion either.

  6. St. Pauli scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

    Colour: white wine
A quite solid Rosebank, better than the (previous) other entry level bottles.
    • Nose
      85 85
A Rosebank with an intermediate aging, which shows on the nose. It has gained some sweeter influence of coconut, vanilla, honey and peach. Further, the distillery profile with a perfumed character, with grapefruit and a bit of grass, is present.
    • Taste
      85 85
Rather full-bodied for a Rosebank, with a continuation of the nose. It's a tad more citric, on lemon zest, and quite creamy like a milk shake.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium long, a tad spicy (pepper, ginger), still perfumed and fruity, with toasted coconut.

    Nose:
Floral perfume, hay, honey, freshly cut grass. There is some citrus in the background, like lemon zest.

    Taste:
Very calm. A tad bitter. A bit like sugary candy lemon peel. A hint of orange. There is a vague hint of caramel in here.

    Body:
    Rather creamy

    Finish:
short finish. A bit dusty, stray, tad bitter and dry. Reminds me of Tullibardine 20yo. There is a sweet touch in the finish but after that, it dries away.

    Price:
Don't know this was a sample

    Presentation:

    Comments:
Samples bought from Henry (hvdree), who has been kind enough to open up 20+ Rosebanks!
On topic: My first Rosebank, and honestly I'm not very impressed. This is quite a easy whisky and very drinkable.
