1590) Compass Box, Myth & Legends II, Glen Elgin, Limited Edition
    (59.2% 18YO / 40.2% a blends of malts between 16Y to 23Y)
    • Nose
N- Summery Sangria, zesty ripe citrus, juicy stone fruits and tart berries, comes alongside baked cookies and liquorice, star anise candy top. The buttery notes arise as the fruitiness subsides. Tangy zings of minerals with late arriving spices, evolving well to dried fruits and nutty. Plenty going on but still lovely and well layered. (91/22)
    • Taste
P- Waxy Washington apple, with underlying sweet mashes. Hints of heather honey smokes with buttery mouthfeel. (87/21)
    • Finish
F- Medium long, sweet, subtle spices, ginger and creamy. Sundried fruits with charred caramel over grassy nuances.(87/21)

B/B- 87/21 Somewhat wee oak-y as it goes.

      Weighted Rate- 85pt

Congratulations to CB, it is finally not a mouthwash anymore.
    • Nose
CB's wine review is really easy to write, syrup, nectar, citrus, dense melon, peach juice, cherry blossom daifuku, double skin milk, very tender.
    • Taste
Slightly young, but it also feels 8yo+ old. All kinds of fruits, but obviously not as delicate as the smell, jam, lotus mist, cucumber, sweet and bitter, chocolate, sorrel, mint.
Normal, average fat, a little sweet, no acid, no tannin, no astringency, slight bitterness, no pungency.
    • Finish
Shorter, fruit tea, dried sweet potato, coffee liqueur, classical cocktail.

Wow, not nearly as good as the Balblair, and one of the weaker Compass Boxes I’ve had to date. I like the syrupy fruit on the nose, but there are some funky earthy and sour notes on the palate that really detract from the experience. The mouthfeel isn’t as thick as the Balblair either, and the finish is short and simple too. Hopefully things pick up with the final bottling in the series.

Nose: Rich and mellow. Plenty of fruit: orange and lemon zest, apple, pear, pineapple, apricot, peaches-in-syrup, and coconut. Some vanilla, malt, and maybe some fresh pancakes with whipped cream. Hard candies: Werther’s Originals, and those strawberry-yogurt candies I used to eat as a kid. Some peppermint and a hint of earth. Ever-so-slightly sulfurous.

Palate: Medium-light texture. Syrupy fruit up front: peach, pineapple, and mango. Oak in the middle, with some fruity tartness, slightly bitter char, and heavy earth. Maybe some peanut butter and whole wheat. A bit of smoke, even some ash, chocolate, caramel, and dried grass on the back end.

Finish: Fairly short. Fruity-tart. Yellow plums, banana, mint, and salted peanuts.

Much better than CB M&L1, very fruity and fragrant, well balanced spice and vanilla. Quite juicy and oak still is noticeable in a good way to balance
