Solid 10-year standard and quite solid for the price. You can't go wrong with this malt. But you shouldn't expect much more from it.
    • Nose
      81 81
A lot of citrus flavors, lemon, more lemon juice than zest, a little apple and later also green, herbal notes. Vanilla caramel and honey sweetness are also present.
    • Taste
      82 82
Moderate start, very tame but a nice mouthfeel. Sugar-like sweetness from honey sets in very quickly. A little wood appears and reminds of cocoa.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium length with chocolate, the citrus notes from the nose now turn into a beautiful bitterness of the citrus peels. Unfortunately everything evaporated pretty quickly.

Pleasant honey sweetness, maltiness, vanilla, coconut, lots of fruitiness /apples, pears, oranges, tropical fruit - pineapple.../, freshness, caramel, hazelnuts, hint of oak. Good intensity of flavour, relatively complex for 10 YO whisky. Longer aftertaste than I expected, full variety of spices. Very good quality for that price.

I tried 3 old Arran 10 samples and was not impressed at all (they were cheap though, one was even an offer by the whisky shop lady). After much postponing I finally decided to try this bottling and I'm totally sold on this. New everyday dram -- for 45 euros in my location you cannot get anything even remotely close to this quality nowadays.

Amazing nose for a 10 year-old mass market product. To me it starts as a peach explosion with complex honey notes (floral and waxy), persistent oak and spices, very mineral and fresh. Fresh apples, lemony, after a while there is a hint of sulfur maybe, but it flies by quickly. Lavender, vanilla and coconut, funky chocolate with banana. Nice job, Arran.
    • Taste
      83 83
Body is slightly watery, very oaky and fresh, maybe a little bit too raw. My least favorite part of this whisky, but by no means bad-bad. Malty and vanilla-y, a little bit too spicy for my taste -- pepper spikes, ginger, bitter lemon with cinnamon, too woody and toasty/burnt. Not as sweet as expected from the nose, not as conclusive and not as diverse.
    • Finish
      86 86
At the beginning it seems to be going the wrong way with too much coffee-like bitterness but it slowly heads to a very fragrant wood road. Thyme, burnt toffee, coffee, chocolate and raisins. Very long for a 10 year-old, honey with herbs, and it drives this whisky back on track after the unbalanced palate. Ideal as a daily dram as it does not beg to be drunk, but instead nosed and «aftertasted» (for this you still need to drink it, unfortunately!). Kudos!

  7. DistiLesha scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Initially modest in flavor, suddenly makes a left kick in flavor and dodges my counter punch in the aftertaste.
Diverse whisky, but I was very impressed with the taste, I did not expect such composure, richness and sherry at all.

Very tasty standard with an indication of age, a solid 46% by volume and without chill filtration plus E150a.
For me a typical ex-bourbon profile: vanilla, sweetness and oak. In the short to medium-length finish, the wood is then dominant.

Hopefully this whisky will remain permanently available at this price. Unfortunately, that is not the case with an 18-year-old from the same family.

Love this amazing price to quality ratio.
Much better than others at same price point. Similar tasting notes to my last Glendronach 12, but those bottles have been inconsistent and unbalanced. This is balanced and judging by others, consistently solid.

Wow, as soon as I opened the bottle, I smelled a very special smell, a fresh, clean blend of orange peel, coconut, sea breeze, banana, sugar-like sweetness, I have not experienced this kind of taste in other whiskies, I must be this Features of Arran.

In terms of pure and refreshing Bourbon cask whisky, I thought it would be similar to Tobermory 12yo or Dalwhinne 15yo, but it turned out to be very distinctive, more pure and sea breeze, with a special orange peel and coconut, banana smell, I Love the feature a lot, and for a 10yo whisky, he's doing so well it's almost unmatched!
Can't feel the 46% abv at all, the refreshing feeling is like drinking juice, the throat tells me that he likes the fresh taste.
I think this performance is not inferior even at the 15 years old level, a very good whisky. Definitely going to be a regular in my wine cabinet.

The taste score is 88 points, and the price does not affect the score.

Have all the essential elements to be a good bourbon forward fruity whisky. It’s just lacking the age to tame the ethanol a bit more.

[78-82] I'll gladly welcome another dram.

    N 25
A handful of citrusy. juicy fruit (red apple, pear). A touch spirity on the nose, quite young. Gradually the botanical malt surfaces. Also, sandalwood. A whiff of sea breeze.

    P 25
Full-bodied. A lot of Vanilla & honey, very bourbon-caskish. Fairly sweet. Some citrusy (lemon peel). Malty alongside the barley sugar. Warm spices (crushed peppercorn, cinnamon, nutmeg)

    F 23
Mid finish. Cereal & malty. Juicy fruit again. Mild spices & honey lingeirng.

The nose starts off honey-sweet with light, almost unripe fruit notes (gooseberries, pear skin) and a hint of a freshly sharpened pencil.

The unripe fruits jump out at you in the mouth, followed by spicy notes on the tongue. He looks very soft and slightly acidic.

In the finish it swings into spicy-nutty wood tones, accompanied by dark chocolate and sour grapes.
    Length: 5/10

All in all a nice, round everyday whisky, which offers a lot for the paper form, but also seems a bit immature and sour.

    Rating: B+

N: ah the freshness, citrus, green apple, pears, freshly cut grass, peach and some honey in the background with some vanilla and toffee

P: extremely complex for a 10 yr, orchard fruits, then some oak notes and sweetness from the bourbon casks

F: medium, sweet and very pleasant aftertaste

    ABSOLUTE BANGER!

3.9 The scent is quite floral + Sherry
It has a slightly smokey bunahaven feel as it rolls on the tongue.

In terms of taste, I think it's a pretty harmonious mix of butterscotch and sherry.
Strong malt flavor, followed by sherry, then butterscotch
Rather than complex, it feels like drinking bright sherry with Scotch Candy.

    Slightly fermented apple taste..?

A well-rounded whisky which is sweet and critic. The first time experience is only mediocre. However, with some oxidation, the bottle becomes great. This is definitely one of the best whiskies for at its price range. Also, it is very complex for a 10 year old.
    • Nose
      86 86
Sweetness, creamy. It somehow resembles the smell of the Baileys Irish Cream. Other that... Citric, coconut and other tropical / light fruits. On the other hand, it is not spicy or smoky at all (or only a little bit). But it has some oaky at the back. The only downside for me is the younger nose (10 years only).

After adding a drop of water, it becomes even more fresh and tropical.
    • Taste
      87 87
Citric, vanilla, white chocolate, slightly nutty, dark fruit. Some spiciness at the tongue due to 46% ABV. A tiny bit of alcoholic note (I guess it cannot be avoided at 46% ABV+). Also, there is definitely some sherry influences inside the dram.
    • Finish
      84 84
A little bit short. The sweetness and the oak is still there. However, even the finish feels little bit like the Baileys, which is interesting. Besides, the general nutty note is turning into a more "walnut" only nutty note.

Smell: medium bouquet, fruity, pear, German. Influenced by the bourbon barrel, yellow ripe fruits, vanilla sweetness in the base, nice balance, uncomplicated, honey, green apple notes in the base

Taste: medium body, nice interplay between fruit and spice, apricot, bitter orange jam, warm alcohol, yellow-fruity, spicy, medium-sized. reverberation

Color: yellow gold, medium WR, of course

Conclusion: It's fun - and twice as much for the tariff called up!

A nice harmonious beginner who has a really nice nose and a good taste and finish. The barrel occupancy is not disclosed by Arran. Above all, the smell suggests bourbon barrels - at least 2nd fill. Some wood influences can be seen in the smell and finish, this could be due to Virgin Oak barrels.

Is he eligible for an award? Matter of opinion. For a beginner it is really very good, harmonious and with a price of around € 35, - has a great price / performance ratio.
    • Nose
      85 85
With a dark gold in the glass and many tears sliding down slowly, the Arran is visually appealing. Right at the first sniff you can see a lot of honey and vanilla. More exotic and ripe citrus fruits in the aroma than the classic apples and pears. Very bourbon barrel-heavy. In the background there are subtle wood impressions and a trace of coconut and chocolate.
    • Taste
      84 84
The malt starts off with a full and oily mouthfeel. In addition to honey and vanilla, lemon and now also grapefruit are at the start. The exotic fruit notes from the smell show up in the taste mainly in a delicate sweetness. It gets tangy and slightly peppery with a few desiccated coconut relatively quickly.
    • Finish
      84 84
The wood of the barrels can now be seen more and more clearly. Dark cocoa with around 60% and a little black coffee - but not too bitter, rather aromatic. The fruit changes towards red apple and pear peels. In general, the finish is medium-long.

I have been a big fan of the old 14 and some older and "weirder" expressions. New livery is nice but slightly posh and designed. Very nice expression that deserves much of the praise it has received recently. And a very good value for money at around 35€
    • Nose
      87 87
Sweet, malty, bready, honey, sweet fruits, vanillin almost pops out, still with some herbs and floral notes underneath. Remains interesting.
    • Taste
      86 86
Sweet, almost cloyingly so, then strong vanilla, malt, chalk, red and yellow fruits, apricot, red apples, green apples, unripe bananas. Pretty straight forward and dangerously quaffable (as they say)
    • Finish
      85 85
Short and sweet, on honey, chalk, salt and white pepper.

Light profile, appears quite young and straightforward at first, with classic crisp fruity notes. Over time, some subtle, earthy, mossy notes appear, with a hint of mint and aloe vera.
    • Taste
      83 83
Smooth, with a touch of orange, banana and some dark sugar. Nice balance of malt and oaky spices. After time, some slightly bitter/ashy flavours emerge, which settle with the addition of water.

A delicious toasty, bready character is obvious, with some mild astringent, almost metallic flavours in the background which are thankfully not overpowering, and give way to a pleasant sweetness as the flavour slowly fades.

The rounded aroma is dominated by peach jam with grapefruit zest and caramel. The sweet taste includes boiled fruits, oranges, peaches and unripe pineapples. Medium-length finish, astringent, nutty lemon.

The new ten hits my head better than the old one, which was cocky, bourbon and very ruffy, the Arrans are great for changing it.

    Update: December 2021
I will bump my old rating up by one... this is mega. Fresh oak, honey, not quite candied ripe fruits, herbs. More herbal and cereal focus on the palate, and that tobacco ash finish! A mini masterpiece.

A wonderfully vibrant 10-year old - showing the industry how it's done! Doesn't pull any punches or aim at being soft or smooth - this one is full of flavour, so it deserves a bit of time.

Orchard and tropical fruit balanced with fresh green wood, softened by the ex-bourbon cask usual suspects of vanilla and honey.
    • Nose
Fruity, woody, sweet. Prickly. Give it a few minutes in the glass so the initially overpowering dry fresh oakiness can subside. After that, it's one of the more rewarding noses of any 10yo I've tried - very vibrant and lots to discover.

Fruits blending with fresh woody notes. Pear, baked pineapple, green apple, grapefruit, blood orange, hint of apricot. Green stems and buds, pineapple stem, pear stem, hints of moss and tree bark, sap, propolis. Wild strawberries?

All of this is supported by beautiful sweet notes: honey, vanilla pastry, caramel. Some hints of fresh, sweet herbs (clary sage oil).
    • Taste
Slightly prickly, a balancing act between fruity sweetness and beautiful acidity. Woody with a fresh green tinge.

Orange candy, banana, lemon, caramel, vanilla pastries, fresh budding fir needles (try them, they're delish!), mentholic nuance.

Some spice in the development (cardamom, ginger), distinctly dry cigar tobacco / ash finish, reminds me of the aftertaste of lighter cigars.
    • Finish
Cigar ash, red apple, honey. Quite dry, thoroughly enjoyable.

Whiskyfun: I think I remember the first Isle of Arran 10 years old as if it was yesterday. I think it was in 2005 or 2006. I also think they've upped their game since those epic times. Colour: light gold. Nose: this one's clearly on citrus, going from straight lemon to more elaborate bergamots, mandarin and kumquats. Behind that lemony barrage, more soft breads, brioche, light beers and just barley. Some Diageo-era expressions of Bladnoch spring to mind. I mean, before it was Diageo. Mouth: things have been reversed, bread and pastries first, then citrus, then overripe apples and pear cake. That's all very pleasant, if a wee tad simplistic – but not in a bad way at all. Touches of green peppercorns then, perhaps, as well as the tiniest metallic note. Pant button, when we were kids. Finish: medium, relatively soft, leaving your mouth as clean as a baby's. Earl grey. Comments: this goes down extremely well, it's no hassle and gets swallowed just as easy as the Nicomachean ethics. Right. SGP:551 - 84 points

Nose: Bright citrus notes (grapefruit juice), green apple, barley, honey and a little vanilla.

Palate: Got a little bite to it, peppery and fresh ginger heat. Prominent citrus notes, some maltiness, honey sweetness.

Finish: Pleasant oak bitterness and citrus, semi dry, pepper lingers. Medium length.

Overall: If you go into this expecting something very easy and friendly like a generic speysider you might be surprised. It has a kick to it and handles a little water well. Bright citrus notes along with pepper and ginger heat dominates the nose and palate, backed up by some malty honey notes. It also has a quite noticeable oak influence, in a good way. It’s not very complex, but everything is nicely integrated and it tastes quite fresh.

Liked the older 10 a bit better, but overall just a slight change in style, not as "orangey" anymore imho and a bit wilder, less balanced than the old 10 out of the bottle. Perhaps with much air things'll change? Still good bang for the buck, but perhaps almost too "extreme" to start a beginners' tasting with.
    • Nose
      Arran maltiness, yellow fruits, vanilla
    • Taste
stewed yellow fruits, a lemon-y component, but also rather strong oak influence and/or spicyness that makes the balance of the mal suffer a bit. And a bit alcohol hot it is, too which perhaps comes down to a change in the distillation cut?

Not a bad whisky in itself. Especially when you look at the price. Lots of citrus and light-colored fruits. Lemon cake. In addition honey and malt sweetness. In addition, hot ginger and effervescent powder.
It bothers me, however, that the citrus notes remind me a bit of citrus cleansers and that I always associate a bit of gum. It's probably up to me.
    Hence nothing for me.

The new bottle design is nice - distinctive and understated, much better than Bladnoch’s for example. But the contents is what matters, and the whisky is very solid and satisfying. The nose is on vanilla and oak spices, the palate adds some grassy notes. The lack of sweetness is surprising and works well.

The whole is not complicated but very well crafted and integrated. There are no off notes. It sounds simple but given how many distilleries fail to accomplish this these days gives pause.

Ralfys Whisky of the year so we have to try it right? ;)

Werther's Echte ( cream caramel drops) Fresh Wood, some polish Vanilla, and apples, peaches and some milky chocolate / slight cinnamon in the finish

... from start to finish. The alc. is quite well away integrated. you can sense it a bit in the nose and palate.

Its quite good but far away from the old 14 even though I didn't rate it high here...had it on the beginning of my journey couldn't appreciate things I do now. Def. This Can't hide the youth imo. For the start a solid 83.P
Price/Performance is ok. No way to be near a 90.

After some glasses: it wins with time and few drops of water gets less harsh (the polish in the nose goes away) still far away from comparable single casks/ cask strength whiskies /85

in aroma on the fruity side. First herbs in taste, then more fruit.
A simple, fruity whisky that delivers very well at the price.
    It's a nice summer whisky.

fruity-sweet; ripe apricot and peach; green, slightly tart apple, lemon, powdered sugar and vanilla.
In the background herb garden and floral notes, alcoholic mint note that stings your nose every now and then; but the alcohol seems to be well integrated.
    • Taste
      84 84
starts smoothly. spicy-peppery note pushes right after. the herbal notes are now more present in the taste than the fruity components.
With the second sip it is clearly fruity up to the lime / lemon taste. Creamy, oily mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      82 82
lasts medium long with fruit and some oak spice. Slightly herbaceous notes also stick in the mouth, but then fade over time.

Easy on the palate, good dose of cane sugar, simple sweetness, light oak, good amount of barley, toffee, dried fruits, dates, a bit of mint. Second chew gets a bit more spicy, peppery, and also brings vanilla cream as well as lemon oil. Really quite good. On the third chew it gets drier, with slight leather notes, light tobacco leaves, a bit of fresh grass, dried herbs, some liquorice, vague hint of smoke. Really well made as easy drinkers go.

      87 87
Light, some spices, drier, but still some sweetness and toffee. Grassy notes, tobacco leaves, dried herbs, and cream.

Nose: Very citrus-rich, lemon cake with frosting, sweet apples, marzipan, sage, fennel tea (but fortunately only a little, hate the stuff actually), Werther's real, milk chocolate, here and there a red fruit without exact assignment. Vineyard peach, Nashi pear, yes that smells like a typical mixture of bourbon and sherry casks for me ..

Taste: Nice mouthfeel, fermented apple, pressed sweet apple and pear juice, dark honey, subliminal roast aromas, hazelnut, cocoa, a bit of sea breeze. The citrus fruits from the nose, I think not so right back.

Finish: medium-long, again cocoa, dark honey, no bitterness, full-bodied chocolate, blood orange.

Very solid standard with the certain Inselkick, but the citrusy nose you have to like, is really very dominant.

herbaceous, sweet, honeyed, on sour apples, malt, fresh and crushed almonds. a little cool glue too and dry wood.
the mouth on the fresh fruits, on the butter, the vanilla, the malt, it is soft, silky and round at the same time, but very pleasant in mouth.
simple finish on the same aromas, a few stones, malt, acidulous and juicy fruits.

  81. Bam scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Very straightforward, simple whisky, but delicious at the same time. Dominated by green apple and citrus. One of the better standards in this age and price range.
    • Nose
The nose starts sweet with vanilla and honey, butterscotch. Citrus fruits mingle with green apples, gooseberries and raspberries. Add some damp leaves and a light herbal note.
    • Taste
Powerful onset, silky mouthfeel, honey sweetness, the citrus notes and green apple are the dominant aromas, to behave the berries. Slightly salty on the palate. Then the oak slowly becomes more dominant, bringing with it cocoa notes.
    • Finish
Medium long, dark chocolate, citrus, grapefruit, some caramel and red apple.
