Blind tasted and thought to be a good 2nd row old style Highland malt. I said blindly that I would buy a bottle but would not pay more than 75 € for it.
However, I have to admit that I didn't give him a chance to breathe.

    Sample testing

Nose: The typical Laphroai smoke (phenolic, maritime and ashy) is still wonderfully present even after 25 years.
In addition to the beautiful smoke, you can also find great Zirtus flavors (lemons and oranges), seared Jerusalem artichokes, beautiful seafood, (octopus salad) seaweed.
All the aromas in the nose can also be found on the palate, the finish is then beautifully maritime, salty with a very pleasant oak.
A very ingenious Laphroaig only sticking point are the 43%. A few percent more would definitely do the mouthfeel good.
Still a really great malt! Regardless of the current prices that are simply too high. (Potential 93-94)

First smoke with sweetness. Then it changes, sweet fruits underlaid with smoke. Very nice.
      2. Tasting: today tropical fruits with maritime notes.
    • Taste

Maritime smoke, light sweetness. The fruits only come when you keep the Dram in your mouth longer.
    • Finish
      91 91
Medium-long finish, the taste continues here, not unpleasant, but not intense either.
      2. Tasting, last sip: Baaammm, chocolate.

It has a relatively oily viscosity and its bouquet is of medium intensity. I have aromas of pleasant maritime peat smoke, creme brulee, citrus fruit, apple compote, vanilla, honey sweetness, herbs and menthol. Relatively complex. Relatively sweet in taste. The alcohol is very well integrated and it has a relatively heavy body.

More subtle on the nose, lighter, playfully light, aromas of Lytchee, sour-fruity, very fine. The taste is rather bitter, smoky, watery. Flat and smoky finish. Mh, nose very good, the rest not at all ...

Leaving the indisputable price aside, this is a very beautiful Laphroaig, which despite its only 43% convinces. But it can be helpful to spare your tongue the barrel strengths a few days before tasting this 25yo so that you can get something out of here. But a reward is guaranteed.
    • Nose
Clear fruity notes that settle directly in the nose with a smoke aroma that is not even too reserved.
The fruits tend towards peach, apricot and banana, without looking like Tropi Frutti gummy bears, but more like a summer fruit salad. Slightly medicinal with only a vaguely reminiscent of warm tar. Seaweed, salt water, white pepper.
    • Taste
As expected, a mild start, nevertheless very aromatic. As if suddenly bursting into a party of dancing tropical fruits. Mild smoke with a spicy note of bacon, medicinally with warm tar and nori leaves. Fresh vanilla pods, sweet honey, white chocolate. Only very subtly spicy, without being able to describe it in more detail.
    • Finish
Medium to long, hardly dry, still with a very tasty fruity note. The peat smoke increases in intensity towards the end, without overwhelming it or overlaying the remaining aromas.

Not a really bad malt in and of itself.
Has a really very nice nose that is really promising. Unfortunately, the taste is very tamed, downright "flat". In a direct comparison, the 25 Cask Strength is the significantly better (and cheaper) choice.
It's a shame that too much water was used here. With 46% or 48% things would certainly look a little better. This leaves a Laphroaig that is great on the nose, but quite boring on the palate.

It is quite good, but way too expensive.

I liked the yearly 25yo CSs more. (and they are also cheaper)

with mild smoke and a hint of medicinal note, tarred hemp rope, a hint of maritime but also slightly floral. Trace of lemon, light fruitiness and sweetness behind. A little freshly ground pepper. Looks a bit fragile and bursting.
    • Taste
      89 89
smoky, spicy, oak, sweet and fruity, a little tar, spices, some barrel and coffee. Now a hint of herbaceous and earthy, also here slightly maritime and salty, trace of lemon. Slightly tart with oak spice, aromatic, intense and engaging.
    • Finish
      88 88
intense with a little smoke, spicy oak, a hint of pepper and chocolate, long fading with a little ash, trace of salty.

I think it's great and tasty.

  15. Kensay scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

not the best release of Laphroaig 25
    • Nose
Light sea breeze, a burning fire, smoked fish on charcoal
    • Taste
      Woody, oily, burnt lemon peel
    • Finish
Medium bitterness with spices, medium duration
