- An excellent Kilchoman very intense and peaty, while showing a very pleasant complexity and balance.
- I love the finish with a kind of metalic oil.
- Delicious. 12 years old that has not loss the character of younger 5 year old releases.
Nose is well mellow, soft and herbal. Citrus is a tad strong at the start but goes soft later. Full of floral notes and herbal scents like those in ricola candy. Coincidence? Ricola is swiss candy and Patrick B is from Switzerland.
Body has a light peat with explosive fruit notes. From pineapple, honeydew and banana to pear, pomegranate and coconut. Very well balanced, lots of nuts too, pecan nuts. Oyster shells, sea salt and seaweed.
Finishing is mild but long. Salty and dry all round to the end. Very vegetative and peppery.
- When Dr Patrick B, swiss chocolate loving, Brora book writing, mad scientist and all around malt maniac buys a cask you take notice. Time to get serious!
N: Flinty, chalky rock. Coal and tar Ashes. Autumnal earth. Leaves kicked underfoot in a wet forest. Needles, grasses, heartwood and bark. Cracked black pepper, cardamom and fennel seed. Roasted chestnuts...you get the idea. With water the fruits appear. Candied oranges. Mango and vanilla ice cream. Kelp and seaweed are present now. Coastal barley fields and salty air.
P: This baby is oily and fat. A decent fermentation that week! Very impressive entry. No hot burn just oily and smooth with some spicyness. It sits down in the mid palate and sings. Old Campari and Amaros very herbaceous and bitter. Arpeggios of fruits play in the background never overstepping their role and allowing the barley to take centre stage. Those who like fruity, sweet or easy going whiskies won’t understand this one. Its a negroni lovers malt. Bravo Patrick.
