    Tasting Notes by producer;

in brief… All of Talisker’s full-on vigour, with the promise of wisdom to come. In a sentence… A classic, intense Talisker that’s like looking out to sea with a storm brewing, and which becomes deeper and more approachable when water is added.

    Nose:
Very clean and intense, with light smoke soon appearing. Creamy toffee, with pronounced fruit acidity. Hints of edible seaweed, heather blossom and a calming influence of vanilla that balances the crisp attack. Chalky and minty. In time, chocolate, then salt. The chocolate becomes slightly nuttier: like praline. Water tempers the attack and brings out a slightly oily note. Initially there's a firework/struck match edge, then more seaweed, as if you’re at the high water mark on a sandy beach. Sweet yet salty, with a savoury sharpness.

    Palate:
Tart fruit, sweet to start, with smoke and tar abruptly exploding around the middle of the mouth. Sweet-centred, a little like liqueur chocolate, yet tempered by a savoury edge that stops things becoming too polite. Water deepens the effect and smoothes out the abrupt shift between sweet and smoke. Mouth filling, silky and complex.

    Finish
Oily, tingling with the signature pepperiness. Smoother with water.

a great Talisker, which is very stimulating and invigorating
    mmh, I like them indeed
    • Nose
very maritime: smoke, salt, sea, spices, vanilla, citrus fruits
an association of Port in the Orient
    • Taste
clearly the stronger alcohol content, but remains pleasant, subtle notes the time need for differentiating, great spice, salt and sea, orange and a hint of clove
    • Finish
medium, salt licorice spice, very tasty

  7. Cicero did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    an intense whisky
one thinks to stand directly on the stormy sea
    • Nose
      again typical Talisker notes
but the sea is much stormier
Algae, mud, salt, a walk on the beach in a stormy sea
more medical than the other two Taliskers
      no alcoholic burning, well integrated
      bright fruits, yellow fruits
but here too the spices prevail
      Mandarins in honey
    • Taste
      much power
      salty sweetness
      Abrasion of a lemon peel
despite NAS, the barrel influence can be recognized, although it is not as present as in the DE for a long time
    • Finish
sweetness again on the finish, and when the aromas begin to fade, the smoke spreads

Here, for the first time, I noticed an intense cloudiness after dilution, which did not recur again. No short staining with streaking, but a permanent (while drinking) cloudy whisky, the optically now more reminiscent of naturally cloudy apple juice.
But only once, then never again. Was it the temperature? The exact mixing ratio? Pollution in the glass?
    • Nose
Harmonious notes of phenol, malt and cold smoke (towards smoked ham). In addition, traces of sea (salt, seaweed).

In the background (especially after adding water) sweet notes (caramel?) And a hint of citrus fruit.
    • Taste
The typical tingling Chili Catch on the go, intense, strong and spicy. First, subtle, then increasingly intense malt notes.

With appropriate dilution to about 45% comes to a fresh fruitiness, which continues the citrus fruit from the nose.
    • Finish
Long and malty sweet. There is a soft smoke on the palate all the time.

The stronger the Verduennung, the more come cold smoke and a trace of citrus fruit in the finish in the foreground. When the smoke fades after a long time, a very mild pineapple sauce comes out. Fascinating.

  10. HunterRomario scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Peat, sea, pepper, and other dimensions of the fruit with a fruity aroma, plus there is something fresh and mint. (90 b)
    • Taste
The first impression on the tongue is sweet, then the transition to iodine and peat, more and more acupressure appears. He will ride with water. Great, full and exaggerated taste. (94 b)
