Whisky Reviews for Glentauchers 1997 Arc

    In store sample.

I think Glentauchers is a total sleeper distillery, but then you have to appreciate distillate driven, subtle and elegant drams. Which this one is. A really great glentauchers in my opinion. Creamy, fruity (tropical), soft waxiness, wispy smoke, soft floral notes. Very elegant indeed. I bought one.

    Edit: I love this stuff.

The first Archives bottling for Canada, so no fish, butterfly or bird, but...dragonfly! I like the 'pureness' of this whisky . The distillery character is well present, without any annoying exotic cask influences.
    • Nose
Very 'pure' whisky from a bourbon hogshead. Freshly cut grass including a bunch of garden mint. Followed by citric notes of lemon zest and kiwi-fruit. Dried coconut as well. Honey and vanilla. Hints of aniseed and chamomile at the background.
    • Taste
Now more on pineapple cubes, orange-rind and lime. Gooseberries. Lemon curd and custard powder. Toasted oak. It's all very fresh and lively. Not that complex, but very drinkable for a lazy sunny afternoon.
    • Finish
Medium long. A little white pepper. Ginger. Liquorice at the end.

Quite an excellent nose. Sweet, overripe pears, a bit of rambutan and honey, and you also got that bubble-gummy saccharine sweetness going on that can go either way... good or bad.

Very good again. Still with the rather fruity core but now with a bit of dried herbs and freshly-cut coriander mixed in. A hint of hay and grassiness.
    • Finish

Lingering sweetness, more generic now. Good length.
