The aroma is fresh and very citrusy, but not as balanced as I had hoped. In blind tasting, I would have guessed that his nose was much younger. A little time in the glass is good for it - it opens up and becomes rounder.
Limes, vanilla, lemon curd, slightly brown apples, white pepper, almond cake, orange peel, ripe pears, grapefruit.
    • Taste
      87 87
Slightly creamy body, tingling attack. Vanilla, caramel, salt, lemon, pear, canned pineapple, white pepper, fine oak, a hint of mint.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium-length, slightly mineral finish. Lemon cake, baked apple, vanilla, brine, lime, cardboard.

A 17 year old Glen Scotia aged in Bourbon Hogshead, bottled in 2019. Some of the 1500 bottles are still available in the online shops in July 2022. The color is very light for 17 years of aging. This indicates classic refill hogshead aging. The question is, how powerful were the casks and can the Campbeltown note prevail?

    • Nose
In the nosing, it's not that easy: the barrels weren't very fresh anymore, which doesn't make the aromas old and tired, but rather rigid and sparse. Vanilla and fruit - but not loud and jubilant, but reserved and hidden. A distant herbal component underlines that this is not about young, flavors left by time. It is a meager whisky that does not convince directly - but does not deter you either.
    • Taste
The taste of this whisky remains sparse and rigid. I would classify it as a classic bourbon aged whisky. And unfortunately the Campbelton characteristic is largely missing. He doesn't have smoke - at least I can't find him.
    • Finish
The barrels were no longer really good – but not bad either. There is a hogshead aroma, but it doesn't really develop. It's like an indifferent Scottish day, the sun didn't come out, the clouds are moving around, but it's not raining either. Nevertheless, the light is dim and it is not even possible to take photos of an impressively gray sky. The whisky isn't bad - but I don't really know why I should buy it either.

Quite coastal, new to me with Glen Scotia
    • Nose
      85 85
Green fruits, green grapes, grapefruit, coastal breeze, hints of seaweed, whiffs of honey and vanilla, spices, some herbs
    • Taste
      86 86
Oily, creamy, little punchy, citric, spicy, little sweetness, olive oil, little salty, little seaweed, some yellow fruits, little vanilla
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium long, warm, little zesty, grapefruit

A really nice fricher and varied meal that you should give time. A really successful bottling
    • Nose
      86 86
Great fruity aromas that migrate from citrus to banana, plus a malty and herbal note of seaweed, anything but boring could have been more intense
    • Taste
      89 89
The full fruit basket ... constantly changing from pineapple to vanilla and grapes, then a little darker with wood and again citrus honey. For me really a very tasty and exciting variety of flavors
    • Finish
      85 85
Here it wears off a little and becomes significantly more iodine-containing, spice is added and somewhere there are also fruity notes.
