[August, 2019] Oops, a virgin entry - so I am the first to rate it. I like that, no preoccupation!

This is a typical blending malt's profile with a rather uninteresting nose but it is easy to drink. I recommend to serve and quaff this in larger measures because it takes some time to really appreciate it. But finally I like such profiles when I am not in the mood of "investigating"...
    • Nose

The colour is jonquiripe corn and the nose offers a Traditional Scotch Speyside profile with loads of barley sugars, mashy, spring floral and grassy aromas. This is flawless but not really interesting - a typical blending malt. What else to say? Nothing...
    • Taste
      87 87
The taste is barley sugary sweet with nice flavours of different nuts, spices and herbs. Hey, this is much better and very quaffable. It is not earth moving but absolutely okayish. Later some toffee and marzipan flavours pop up and make the taste more delicious. Some water turns the nose punchier and the taste even sweeter while more water simply flattens the whisky. I like the neat dram best.
    • Finish
      86 86
The dram arrives warming with a minor coating effect and without distracting moments on the the palate. The finish is medium to long and adds more bitter-herbal impressions that are welcome to balance the enormous sweetness. A minor drying feeling develops towards the end but this is not distracting.

Robust, with traces of peat. Rather Campbeltown smoke than Islay
    • Taste

Different than nose. Getting sweet, white chocolate and honey

      Medium long, quite raw

My first impression of this one was rather poor, I had found it very ... neutral actually, barely picking anything. But it was in a fast-paced tasting context, so luckily I managed to grab a sample for a cold-headed review. Sadly, it's not that much better. It's indeed very neutral, as I remembered it. It has its moments, the subtle elderberry notes are cool, but the transition to oakier tones in the late palate cancel this freshness, sadly. 82-83

Starts very neutral. Like really, I've got a hard time picking up anything remotely significant. There's some barley water, we're quite close to the raw materials. A bit of minerality, plaster, bread, yoghurt. Develops on a subtle fruit note with brambles. Yep, maybe that's close to a blackberry yoghurt ? This side is growing a bit now, nice. A bit of fresh butter. Later on, if you keep paying close attention, some nice notes of elderberries arise, with subtle half vegetal - half medicinal tones, on a tiny bit of anise and white mint (Vichy lozenges). Nice, but that's really digging deep.
    • Taste
      82 82
The alcohol integration could be better. There's a certain fizziness here, consecutively. Less defined, there's a feeling of berries, elderberry water again, with a leafiness that soon transitions to dry hazelnuts and oaky tones. We're almost in a torrefied register at some point. That's interesting in itself but not really coherent with the rest of the profile, sadly.
    • Finish
      81 81
The oaky notes are dominant here. I wish it would have played the card of freshness, leaving a more-ish feeling, but there's a rather oaky hint of bitterness here instead. Too bad.

[Sep 19 outturn tasting - quick note] I guess this one flew over me completely, because there's hardly anything I could describe here. It's good in the sense that there's no flaw, but it's always frustrating when you have to compliment something by anti-negatives. I'll retry it someday.
    • Nose
Malty, extremely minimalistic (read : shy), I can't add much more. Some very slight fruitiness (berries ?).
    • Taste
Strangely a puff of smoke, still mineral and austere / shy. I guess I missed this one ; others are quite enthusiastic about it.

2 cl sample from a freshly opened bottle

Certainly good for blending to give body to a blend, but too malty sweet without fruit, unfortunately.
    • Nose
      86 86
Rather first than second fill notes. Sweet and malty. Woody Marzipan. Nose it rather refrained. Maybe time will help?
Some herbs and soices appear after time.
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet malted barley. With a lot of body. Cleans the palate. Some spice, some herbs, some dryness from the wood (?)
    • Finish
      85 85
Quite intense but a concentrated taste transformed to the finish. A bit too much for me. Dryness overpowers on my palate.
