A lot of too heavy (VO) cask doctoring to hide its youth. This follows on the palate. The VO note almost cuts out my tongue with a quite overwhelming but rather bitter mouthfeel and a quite short VO finish that can't hide the age and the low strength is not beneficial either. Almost bourbonlike (not wood but unfortunately the drink itself) in the end (not sure that's good).
You really have to like VO to like this dram.
After this dram I still wonder what Strathearn tastes like. So far I only tasted wood (influence). This is bascially forcing a scot to dress up as a yankee. Not sure a scotsman would really appreciate it, probably at least he'd kick you...
I am looking forward to a more balanced and distillate driven approach at higher strength.
This is rather whisk-e-y, not whisky.
Thank god I only swapped a 5cl sample.
