  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Bought this bottle for the Greek market in a tiny mini-market in Pilion, Mid-Greece during summer holiday in 2019. It was the last bottle on the shelf next to the common Chivas Regal's and Haig's. Paid 29 euro for it, which is a bargain for a relatively rare Cardhu expression. It made up to a perfect mediterranean whisky.
    • Nose
Very smooth with sweet barley and fresh sandal wood. Light bees-waxed furniture, but also notes of clementines and mandarins. Honey-clover. Lavender at the background.
    • Taste
Medium bodied mixing with maltiness and orange peel. A little lemon and peach as well. Hints of malteasers and toffee followed by some butterscotch and cake-mix. It has slightly more depth than its more well know 12 year-old sister expression.
    • Finish
Toasted dryness and some white pepper. Menthol at the end. Not very complex, but a quite quaffable all-mans-friend.

  2. KB201 scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Pleasantly intense and complex, at a still bearable price.
    • Nose
      83 83
Fruitiness with a delicate smokiness in the background
    • Taste
      83 83
Strong oak, sweet vanilla, dark chocolate.
    • Finish
      82 82
Long finish, slightly fruity and dry.

  3. MADKARMA scored this whisky 78 points Newbie

Nice and full of fruit. Perhaps not as complex as one hopes and somewhat light in after taste but enough to enjoy. Quite a nice whisky, do try.

    • Nose
Malt, fruit, light mash tones, creamy, honey sweetness, in contrast to younger releases, perfumery appears
    • Taste
Honey sweetness of garden fruits, sweetness 8/10, some sour-salinity, moderate bitterness and perfumery
    • Finish
Sweet and slightly woody, then woodiness grows and lasts a long time on the tongue

    Quarte Quart

Cardhu was built in 1824 by John Cumming – albeit as Cardow – in the heart of Speyside. In 1893 it was bought by John Walker & Sons to provide enough Speyside style malt for their popular blends. Today we’ll try their 15 Year Old single malt.

The nose is pretty closed at first. It takes quite a few minutes and hand warmth before it reveals its secrets. Some baked apples, mandarin, furniture polis and a floral note that reminds me of lavender. Grain cookies, honey and barley sugar. The difference with the 12 is significant, in my opinion.

Nicely oily on the palate. Sweet malt, oranges – peel included – peach and toffee. Quatre quart cake. Midpalate it even turns a bit spicy and drying. But if I’m honest, I do prefer the 12 Year Old.

The finish is medium long and surprisingly dry and get a little menthol uplift.

It has a little more depth that his younger brother – certainly on the nose – but let’s not call this complex.

I suppose its a classic Cardhu nose, ginger, honey, warm biscuits & spice but also a hint of fresh paint.
It is spicy & slightly peppery but also thin & watery at first but the sweetness is very pleasant and easy going.
Thankfully it gets a little syrupy getting fatter mid palate.
Very one dimensional, little profile to speak of but I like it.
A summer sipper for sure, this is what I call an inoffensive malt.
