    [Sep 19 outturn tasting - quick note] This is actually a very nice drinking whisky and good value to boot, although it's certainly not super distinctive.
    • Nose
      Crème brulée and pears, generous delivery ! There's a lot of sweet pear-yoghurt, à la young Ben Nevis.
    • Taste
      A bit less fruity yet still very okay, on chalk and pears. Nice alcohol integration.

    Nose: Gingerbread smothered in melting salted butter, apricot yoghurt with pineapple fritters and banana bread.

    Palate: White chocolate buttons, lemon drizzle cake and almond flakes. Soft lime zest and green apple skins.

    Finish: Spiced apples with runny honey and butterscotch sweets.

    This packs more of a punch than the light colour lets on. There’s an interesting juxtaposition of sharper spirity notes with those toasted-wood, burnt-sugar barrel notes. I’m not sure it entirely works, but it’s certainly not boring. The water definitely helped round everything out. I’m interested to see how it develops as the bottle sits a bit longer.

    Nose: Bright and fresh. Floral honey, with some of the beeswax mixed in. Cut grass, banana, lemon oil, summer flowers, and lavender. Toasted almonds and walnuts, oatcakes, nougat and vanilla Some fragrant fresh-cut wood notes. A hint of pink salt and graphite, and almost a bit of a soda water smell. Very slightly soapy.
    A dribble of water brings out some more stonefruit and apple notes.

    Palate: Medium texture. More of that honey up front, followed by a surge of oak and vanilla spices. Rich nuts, burnt sugar and toffee on the development. There’s a hit of toasted oak spice and bitterness, with tobacco, unsweetened cocoa powder, roasted green tea, black pepper, and various different cookies. Coffee with condensed milk, orange zest, and honeydew melon.
    Water adds fresh peaches and sweet rich cream, while dialing down the bitterness and spice. Those nutty and tobacco notes are retained, though.

    Finish: Fairly oaky. Vanilla crème, coffee candies, gingersnaps, and those cookie straw things. More honey, with toasted coconut and tropical flowers. Barrel char and a hint of toasted black pepper.
    The water brightens things up to tart yellow plums.
