Whisky Reviews for Caol Ila 1979 BR

  1. Dede scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

An excellent Caol Ila. If its complexity is not exceptional, it is a flawless elegance and a nice balance.
    • Nose
Powerful, but also fine and elegant, it mixes with a subtly smoky peat scents of citrus (lemon, a touch of tangerine) and apple peels, as well as the sweet, tangy and slightly artificial smell of a sachet Haribo crocodiles freshly opened. The smoked malt is more obvious with aeration, accompanied by marine notes, on salt, no iodine here. The water brings out spicy notes (ginger).
    • Taste
Dry, the degree of alcohol is felt. We still perceive a nice balance between smoked / peat, citrus and salt, very present. A very clear note of light lager (Lager type) appears on the mid-palate. With water ?: yeah, it's great, the profile remains pretty much the same, but the bite of alcohol disappears.
    • Finish
Long and intense, on smoked malt, salt and citrus fruits, with the persistence of the note of beer detected in the mouth.
